Goodwood Revival 2005 thread
That time of year again, not long now until the greatest race meeting on the planet. I know Peter Mallett and John Turner are going, who else?
What are you looking forward to most? Are you going to wear period clothing? Me - yes, dressing up and looking forward to the Whitsun Trophy on the Saturday with GT40s galore & the St.Mary's Trophy 60's saloons races. |

It'll be my first time! I've been out of the country every other year.
Got the clothes so dressing up for it. Just looking forward to the weekend. Tim D will also be there and I've no doubt Zef & Tedebear will put in an appearance. |

I must admit I don't dress in period gear, and in fact most who attend don't either. I love all the races but the one that captured my imagination from the start was the TT with all those wonderful front engined GTs. The 50's sports racers come a close second though - Hardman in the Aston is spectacular but when the Dino is there in Dron's hands, it has the edge. The Ferrari is in period, just, but is undoubtedly later technology.

I'll be there as usual although I have yet to find out where I am posted this year. Tim, will Suzy be going with you? I'm looking forward to meeting some old and hopefully some new friends.
Peter, where are you staying whilst you are there? |

Well, my name on here is a (big) clue. I'm in an Alfa SZ. My mum was chuffed, 'cos I got a brief mention in today's Sunday Times (thanks to my mate Nick Savage)....albeit that in the list of who's driving what at Goodwood, I was in the 'at the other end of the scale' paragraph..!! James |

not bought any tickets, and I'm not that fussed about going, we have a baby on its way which is far more important and I'm still a bit peeved at not being invited as I think my cars as valid a St Marys car as any. more to the point I can't hack watching if I'm not racing !!!

Received an e-mail press release this morning with the latest news.
Pray for sunshine! From the Goodwood press office: "The Goodwood Revival is - we believe - the only major sporting event in the world held entirely to a period theme. It is also by far and away the biggest historic race meeting in the world and, quite possibly, the biggest motor sport event of any kind in Britain. With the weekend not far away now - 16.17.18 September to be exact - we thought you might like to know the latest news about the highlights of the weekend. There's an extra race this year bringing the total to 15, including two rounds of the St Mary's saloon car race and Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy. VIP drivers will drive in the 1-hour, 2-driver RAC TT Celebration race for 60s GTs, (E-types, Cobras, Corvettes, Ferrai GTOs) and in both the St Marys races and the Sheene bike race. Our VIP driver line up this year is exceptional. We're delighted to confirm that we have two current F1 drivers for the first time in Vitantonio Liuzzi (Red Bull) who will drive a Plymouth Barracuda in the St Marys trophy and possibly a TT car as well, and Narain Karthikeyan (Jordan) who will drive a Lotus-Cortina in the St Marys and Sir Anthony Bamford's Ferrari GTO in the TT. Great saloon car racers back in action include Peter Brock, Rauno Aaltonen, John Fitzpatrick, Stuart Graham, Richard Lloyd, Alan Mann, Sandro Munari, Anthony Reid, John Rhodes, Rosemary Smith, and Sir John Whitmore. Great F1 stars of the past in action include Rene Arnoux, Richard Attwood, Derek Bell, Gerhard Berger (riding a bike as well!), Johnny Herbert, Alan Jones, Rupert Keegan, Jochen Mass, Sir Stirling Moss, Jackie Oliver, Marc Surer and Patrick Tambay. CART/IRL/Indy stars include Dario Franchitti for the first time, in a Jaguar E-type lightweight in the TT, Bobby Rahal and star lady duo Lyn St James and Desire Wilson paired in a Shelby Daytona Coupe in the Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration - this should be a great race! And the bike race is more star studded than ever before, one third of the machines ridden by major names including Wayne Gardner, Mick Grant, Niall MacKenzie, Chas Mortimer, Ron Chandler, Colin Seeley, Scott Smart, Paul Smart, Jamie Whitham, Stan Woods. And Gerhard Berger! The main tribute for the weekend is to Sir Jackie Stewart, the most successful ever British Formula One driver as the winner of three World Championships. He was discovered here at Goodwood 42 years ago by Ken Tyrrell and its 40 years this year since his first Formula One season and victory. We'll be assembling a fantastic selection of Stewart's ex competition cars, and many of his friends and associates, too. Ladies will love this! To celebrate '50 years of the Chrysler 300', we are bringing together a complete set of Letters Cars (from 1955 to 1965 - 11 cars in all, coming from Italy, Belgium, France, Norway and the USA) and we will be presenting them on-track with 11 models (girls!) each dressed in the iconic fashions of the respective year. The fashion history is as interesting and the automotive angle, and will include fashions from Dior, Chanel, Balenciaga, Hermes, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Halston/Cassini, Biba, Courreges and Mary Quant. The 300 display will bring couture to the Revival in a way that hasn't been achieved before, and it's possible that a full set of Letters Cars has ever been seen before. The Bonhams auction will feature the ex-Grover Williams Bugatti Type 35 which won the first ever Monaco GP in 1929. Spectacularly original, the car has had only 2 owners from new and is almost certain to break all records for a car of its type. Arguably the most important Bugatti GP car of all time and worth over £2m. There are other very high value cars in the Bonhams sale - for further information please contact the Bonhams press ofice on: Tel: +44 (0)207 468 8210 The flying displays this year will be bigger and better than before. Spitfires, Hurricane, Mustangs, Lancaster, Thunderbolt and Hawk will be the main protoganists, while the B17 Sally B will make its last flight before retirement. Also, a superb replica of Alcock and Brown's Vickers Vimy that crossed the Atlantic in 1919 will be making its only UK flight having recently re-crossed the Atlantic from the US in mid-July. Among the numerous mods, rockers and bikers present will be up to 30 definitive Velocettes, gathering in celebration of '100 Years of the Velocette' motorcycle. The Incredible Goodwood Create-A-Car competition was won by 8-year old Emma Hutchinson from Leamington Spa following her drawing made at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. Her design will be made from scratch live during the Revival in time for the completed car to be started and driven by Sir Stirling Moss around the track prior to prize-giving on the Sunday night. Truly a dream come true for the budding young designer! Last but not least, Revival EXPO - our big shopping experience - is much larger this year, as is the Pre-66 public car park which, with around 1500 entries, will be a major classic car gathering in its own right. Like the Festival of Speed, the Revival is strictly 'entry by advance ticket only'. We had 103,000 visitors last year and with advance tickets sales going well, we're expecting more this time - in fact we could be heading for a sell-out". |

Last I heard, Brocky will be in a Vauxhall for the St Mary's Trophy and a Corvette for the TT. Just wondering if he'll be running as #05?
