As Liz said in this first go around at this topic, le mans in an invitational race, and I think it should stay that way, as it would violate the eltieness of the race for everyone to be forced to compete. Besides, it's not as if the field of cars is a problem. I don't know much about european gt series, but as far an american competitors go, most will do the opposite of what you suggest: they will run le mans but few other regular races(vette, cadillac, bentley). So I don't think it's a problem. Furthermoe, some teams cannot afford the jump across the pond, or it would be worthless for them to do so. For example, Dyson racing would not be all the competitive to justify the costs of going to le mans right now, but should they be forced to go cause they have run some alsm races? Le Mans isn't suffering form a lack of good fields, so I don't think there's any reason for it to be compulsory

Well, no to compulsory, but it would be improved with more cars. As a regular Le Mans goer, I attended my first Daytona 24 hours this year. The really big thing that struck me was that the field was about twice the size of Le Mans and the track distance about a third. Result action all the time and still plenty the next day. So yes an equivalent lineup of about 250 cars would add a lot to Le Mans.
So maybe you do need to make it compulsory to get that many

I haven't noticed any lack of action at Le Mans, personally. It keeps me awake just the way it is!

Have you got the question the right way around ?? Le Mans attracts huge crouwds, many travelling great distances, a lot only attend this one event each year. No other sports car event comes close except perhaps Daytona 24hr.

But before it is suggested Balastere tried it, the sports car series Group C failed, Le Mans carried on.
