Mark Rennison

Does anyone have any pics of the RS200 when Mark first got it or any pics of it in Blue with the DSRM colours on it
Or even a contact for Mark
Thanks

I think the first meeting for Renny`s RS200, was Brands Hatch, where it appeared in plain white, and ended its day in the pit wall.

Should have a photo somewhere, I have a look next week, as off to Essay tomorrow

Think the car was used in 86, was one of the first RS200's to be used in rallycross i think.
Was also alwasy the ebst set up and prepared in my view aswell.
Renny could ahve been European champ if he had kept at it instead of having a go at BTCC in my view.
Wonder where the car is now?
Didnt the big wing body go to Rolf Nilsson?

My fave was the all blue colours, blatting up hairy hill with a stab of flame every gear change, joy!!

Mark’s RS200 was first seen (in the ERC at least) on 17th August 1986 at Valkenswaard to finish second (behind John Welch) in the 'B' final. It was the FIRST true Group B car in RX. At Lydden, on 20th September, he made it into the 'A' by winning the 'B' and finished fourth overall. The first flock of Group B cars showed up for the RX GP at Brands Hatch in December 1986.

yes I remember not having a clue who was who in the GP coz they were all still in their rally colours, no dount after being picked up from Boreham a week or so before!!

Renny's always seemed to go very well though, whether it as coz he had it for a bit longer than the otehr guys or that he just got a good un, I seem to remember that initially even Martin counldnt really get on with the car and the likes of Holm,Rantanen,Wiklund,Andersson,Ottosen really did nothing in them for a while.

Renny was just a very good driver… However, one thing should not be forgotten. The RS200 with the 1.8 engine was rather well developed in rallying and those, who used the small engine in the beginning (Renny, Nilsson) had less problems. I went with Martin Schanche to Bologna/Italy for the "Bettega Memorial", the week after the 1986 Brands Hatch GP. Stig Blomqvist was also there and drove a 1.8 RS200 for Ford, while Martin used his 2.1 E2 engine for them. Stig did a test drive there with Martin’s car and told us and John Taylor a little later, that the new 2.1 would not fit at all to the RS200. And it took Martin (and others) quite some time then to suit the RS200 to the big engine.

IIRC Renny had the larger engine at the '87 Internations Cup meeting at Croft. Something blew on the Saturday afternoon, so it was over to Bardys workshop and the 1.8 engine was fitted. Mark came out on Sunday and was unbeaten all day.

The '87 IC has to be the best meeting ever in the UK. The only way it could have been better was if we had seen Renny and Seppo Nittymaki, head to head. They both won all their races, but never faced each other.

I agree with Chunder I always considered Mark to be the most talented UK driver of his generation (Will was close) and what a travesty he went off to BTCC and failed so miserably; his talent didn't deserve that.

I think MArk did have something of a car advantage certainly. In the UK he was totally dominant. In Europe he was not quite as quick as Matti and Martin, but was getting there in only one year.

If you see what Will, Pat and others managed, there is no doubt in my mind he could have been ERC champion. In an RS200, I always considered Mark to be perhaps the most complete RS200 driver. he looked so at ease in that car. The blue one was always my fave, simple, clean, and my God it sounded lovely, no chatter, just power!!

Thank you very much Stephen H!! I was 12 when Rennison drove that Mk3 escort at lydden but i remember it like it was yesterday! My brother and i couldnt believe that a 1600 could beat the cars that it did. We thought and still do that Mark was a legend. I havent been able to find any photos at all of the escort in red blue and white despite really trying. What a great thread.
