1982 again. After a race at Donington Wally Warwick reckoned there were too many bent engines in FF1600 so decided to protest the first 10 finishers, including himself. Having stumped up £5000 in protest fees all the engines were checked and the only one found to be illegal was his!!!!

That happened in FF2000 a couple of years ago. This competitor was convinced the Championship winner was cheating so his sponsor stumped up the money and the engine was fine. There's built by a well known engine builder was not. Red faces all round.

There's one fellow competitor who generally makes me smile. He runs his car with non Group 1 attachments and claims that although his is an earlier version it only has the same bits as one of a later design. He also regularly swaps from Gp1 to Gp 2 configuration depending on who is entered. The trouble is the engine remains group 2 even if he's running group 1.

Or indeed Holland,a few years back one chap insisted on having engine mapping fitted to his MGB,biggest problem was disguising the Throttle Potentiometer!. It never got discovered.

Hi John,

Well, since you're authorising digression, in best Ronnie Corbett Fashion, then yes, we hope to have (gasp!) two teams of Giuliettas out with AMOC 50s Sports Cars this year. Plus, we had LAK's other half at our team captains meeting at Mark C's house, and hopefully there will be a team of Lancia Aurelias out as well!

James

Given the roaming charges it's debatable whether the trip would be better than the phonecall.

A mate of mine brought a Twincam engine that had been used to win a Dutch Sportscar Championship in an Elan. He was told by the builder that it was illegal but he had been given a free hand (and serious money ) to make it win ! Before he fitted it in his Cortina we had a good look at it and found it was a disguised Alloy BDG blocked 2lt cleverly done including a wet sump !
It went well, but I bet it went better in the Elan
