Ferrari Rear wing, Long beach 1982
Having seen the 1982 F1 Review Video recently, I noticed that Ferrari carried an unusual design of rear wing for the 1982 Long Beach GP, which got Villeneuve disqualified, If anyone knows what i'm talking about, could anyone tell me what the theory was behind the design?

An immensely ugly add-on to what was a beautiful car driven by two outstanding drivers. The idea was to create more downforce (and possibly a distraction to those behind). Great race between Gilles and Keke that day until it lasted. I remember it like it was yesterday. The Williams much nimbler around the bends but the turbo Ferrari, once into its stride, gobbling it up down Shoreline Drive straight. Terrific.

The theory was that the rules gave a maximum width for a wing but didn't limit the number of wings so they staggered 2 wings of the legal limit to create a wing as wide as the back wheels but the rulemakers disagreed and ruled it illegal.
