"Racer" projects

I think this exciting new perspective does deserve its own thread.

So: with the aid of several softwares it's possible to make our own tracks driveable and even raceable - and doing it absolutely - and legally - free.

Three different softwares are needed:

- The "Racer" racing simulation game software. Here's the homepage: http://www.racer.nl/

- a 3D graphics editor software. Since the turorial I followed uses Blender, a freeware, I recommend this: http://www.blender.org/ (but other such editors, like 3D Studio Max, for example are also good, of course)

- a "final touch" track editor software called TrackEd. Downloadable from the Tracker home page. (Although it has higher number versions available, the tutorial I used recommends Tracked v3.0 since, the claim says, higher versions have some kind of bug in them. v3.0 is good enough, that's what i used also.)

I highly recommend anyone new to this thing to consult this superb forum: http://forum.racesimcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1261

It features a very usable step-by-step tutorial here - thanx to Boomer: http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=260865

The tut is great, belive me, if I could use it, than anyone - maybe even Dubya could use it You can download Tracked 3.0 from here as well as other great and important stuff.
Boomer is usually online, so if you have any questions or problems you'll probably get quick help in that thread. Either him, or the other great guy, GizmoPower will probably help - and do it quick

Finally, a very good downloadable car collection (for the Racer game) here, az iroker's home page: http://www.iroker.com/e107_plugins/d...php?sort=brand

Some of the cars are cockpit view, some are chase camera view. Maybe it's possible to change view within the game, I haven't discovered it yet

That's it for now, I'll be back shortly with some more content.

Can you do ovals, or is this road course only?

You can make ovals - with banked turns - sure.

This'll be sooo exciting if it were possible for me to create one of my tracks using the 1st of the 3 choices. Later on today, I'll check out the site. Bio, is there the need to sign up to anything before I start?

I advise you to sign up to www.racesimcentral.com because of the the forum. But you don't have to.

BTW, what 3 choices did you refer to?

Not choices. My mistake.

BTW, when you said Dubya could use it, do you mean me? I'm not offended, I'm just not a genius when it comes to complicated computer things.

No, he was referring to the current president of the country I live in: George "Dubya" Bush.

Two clips. First, a lap of my Moorgate Park circuit from cockpit view:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyIsQ2vd4ds

The graphics of the game is way better, I guess the quality is my resizer's fault...

The bad quality and the lack of sound pretty much kills the sense of speed, but hey...

That funky red-blue thing around the track is my texturing mistake - but I like the way it looks

Ohhh, I see. I had an inkling that it might've been him, but I couldn't be sure, possibly being referred to as TDubya or sumthin'

Bio, I'll let you know tomorrow what I think of the videos you posted. YouTube is banned at school.

In the very first comment of this thread: http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=260865 there are all the neccessary files (minus Blender, but that can be downloaded from its home page I linked at earlier), including Tracked 3.0:

Bio, what's your username in Race Sim Central and what section do I go to?

Edit: Don't worry, I found you, bioLarzen. I stumbled on boomer's tut thread. If you're wondering, I'm DaleC, my real name, as in Dale Chatfield.

This time I tried to put in some altitude change. Hence i brought in Perth, one of my designs that got definitely positive remarks here.

Sadly I couldn't put in too big elevation changes - the car couldn't climb it... - so it doesn't really show on this low quality vid
