What do you want to see!?
Ok, I know the Historic Racing scene is in pretty good shape - one way or another at the moment - but being human, we always want more. So, if you could pick a car/driver/track (or any one of these), what would you pick?
Personally, I'd love to see the following: - A BRM V16 running competitively in a 50s GP field with someone like Martin Stretton driving it. - Aston Martin Project 212 back in the hands of Martin Brundle (perhaps with Herbert, Pearson - anyone quick really) at Goodwood to give all the Jags and Cobras something to think about. - A 917 blitz the pre-72 (or-74/5) Le Mans field. I know Bobby Rahal had a very fast outting at Le Mans, but I didn't manage to get to that one. It's just a bit of fun, so go on, let me have it! |

There will be a "Legends" type race before the main event at Le Mans this year and it is for younger cars than the similar race before the 2001 Le Mans - but as I write, I can't remember the year span for those who are to be invited. I recollect though that it did include the early 70's, so maybe we will see a couple of 917s being wheeled out? Hope so. Last edited by Aysedasi; 9 May 2003 at 12:13. |

Yes, I thought it was for cars up to 1975, but am fully prepared to be corrected on the point.
In my fantasy world, one of the 917s would be a Langheck............. |

That sounds about right to me. If it turns out that we have a chance to see more than one, I'll be pleased, whatever it is!

Nothing wrong with a T70 Peter! A few years back they used to be quite common (a relative term of course) in the pre-72 LM race at Coys, but there don't seem to be so many these days.
Jonathan Baker's was pretty quick, but he then moved on to a T33 and then the F3L. |

I could quite happily watch a whole day of saloons, pre 59, pre 66, pre 71, pre 77 say . . . . .

They might be a bit new but I was always a bit of a Reynard 87 FF200 fan.

Well, I love all the sports racers from the late fifties through to the 70's from DBR1/300 through to 917. But what about someone dusting off all those old Silhouette Super saloons - you know the ones that looked a bit like your road car but had flared arches, fat tyres and powered by V8s, twin cams and BDAs etc. Cars like Mick Hill's Boss Capri, which had Lola T70 underpinnings, big engined Escorts, unlikely monsters like Dafs and Skodas, John Popes Aston V8 engined Magnum, Brodie's 'Run Baby Run', Gerry's Baby Bertha (of course) and the Grandaddy of them all, Doc Merfields's 'Fraud' Cortina with the Cobra engine. Wonderful stuff!

Speaking of the BRM V16, both Rick Hall (v. quick driver) and Nick Mason have raced them several times, as has Peter Gethin, but they rarely run well.
My preference would be for a full grid of 3-litre pre-DFV F1's, like the race at Goodwood a couple of years ago, but with some Cooper-Maseratis and Brabham-Repcos and a BRM H16 or two, and maybe the something powered by the obscure Martin V8 engine. |

Personal nostalga in know, but the car I remember most from growing up and going to Donington was the Catreham based 'Black Brick' racers; there were about 4 evolutions if I remeber rightly. They really captured my young imagination. I'd love to see one blasting around today.
As for pure historics, I'd give anything to see Sir Moss back in that 250F that he drove in the wet a few years back, and on a slightly diffrent tack I'd be interested to see Martin Stretton having a proper crack in a contempory F1 car. |

Rob Cox ran the "Black Brick" as I recall. But was it a Westfield?
Sir Stirling in anything is always good value. And Simon. Coys at Silverstone is all I can remember. Haven't seen any other inCARnations. |

Oops.
Just thought about the Spa 6hrs. I often wonder why they don't do a "festival" style meeting there. |

I was only thinking of UK (very island mentality!!) but you are right the 6 hour meeting is good and it is almost festival. Certainly fromn a drivers point of view it is the highlight as almost everyone has long distance races which as most agree is the way forward!!
