Triple J Motorsport should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Sorry about going off the thread but I was wondering today what was first FF1600 or Formula Vee?

I always assumed it was FF1600

I'm sure Sam will be on soon with all the Vee data.
First FF1600 race was July 1967

Vee did pre-date Formula Ford I am fairly sure. Marcus Pye always says so in his commentaries anyway.

Both started on the same day.

At least in the UK.June 18 1967.Though Vee was going several years before that in the USA and had reached Germany by 1966.
First FF race was a class attached to a Libre race at Snetterton,2 weeks before the first FF only one at Brands.

Which came first - the FF1600 or the Vee!

Yep, UK championshipwise it was Vee by 2 weeks but Vee started in the USA 3 years earlier.

perhaps but the racing is closer and more entertaining, the grid girls are better looking, the drivers have more fun... an to be honest I've not seen many FF16s that are better looking thaan a challenger or a GAC

No Sam, the racing is not necessarily closer and more entertaining. I've seen several FF1600 and several Vee races over the last few seasons and they are just as entertaining as one another. I'd love you to prove that the drivers have more fun, and as for the grid girls... whoopee doo.

Some of the newer Vees do look quite nice, some FF1600s look terrible.

I am always puzzled by the which is better question.

In my mind although similar in performance, vee is more recreational, less serious and probably not a good place to be if you want to progress in racing. FF are more conventional race cars, a little faster and a better place to move on and learn.

They are surely attracting differant drivers? Which is better is defined by which matches want you want more closely.

The better looking vee's (ray and GAC) are built within ff bodywork, the gac being from a swift 92 or 97 IIRC.

I think most FF do look better but I wouldn't swap my sheane for any of them, I love what I've got.

These two are fine in my book, but I must admit I forgot about the Crossle 67F and - even worse - the 70F

Yeah, the 70F was a pig alright...I remember Fionn Murray debuting a works car here in 1989. From the tip of the nose back to the (high) cockpit opening looked like a bloody submarine, and the big high engine cover...yuk!

Fionn could have got to the very top of this sport - if he could have been arsed to.
Jumped in anything and was always quick.

From knowing the Murray family I think Fionn decided to call it a day after a dismal season of British Formula Renault in '91. As far as I know he was trying to raise a budget for European Formula Opel and it didn't look like it was going to happen so he weighed it all up and that was that. Of course Fionn would have been around 26 at the time and maybe he felt enough was enough?

I think I might be wrong about Fionn not being arsed. Looking back, I'm probably thinking about Jay Pollock - sorry

The challenger is a bespoke Vee body and looks great. And no I would never knock grid girls - as I said they are great.

a selection of vees can be seen here -
