It happens all the time.

At no point had there ever been an official A1GP press release saying that the race was off.

No, but I'd normally give a bit of weight to a statement from the Club:

As the Autosport article says, it would appear that there were some internal statements saying that the event was cancelled. This was superceded by internal and external statements saying that the event was on. So the SCCA information may very well have been correct - it is just out of date.

It started though with the report in the Express, AS got wind, and it's snowballed from there....whilst there's never been an offical A1GP release, the SCCA website notice was strange considering no announcement from A1GP and it all sorta being leaked.

Still begs the question, what and why were the internal statements?

It sounds like the internal statements were made because A1 organisers thought that they would not be able to get the track ready in time. But then Laguna said that they could, so that they backtracked. At least that is what it looks like, if there is anything more to it, which there may well be, we don't know for sure what it is.

I would guess that SCCA were given official information and that they indiscreetly published it on the website before it was announced to the press and public. Now that the opposite announcement has been made - well, everyone looks a little foolish for not handling it very well.

Yeah, just the sort of publicity the series wants.

It could very well be that they don't have any financial problems, but in that case i advise them to hire a good pr-manager that kills any rumours cause this is really hurting them.
Have been talking to a friend who works for one of the series' major suppliers.

Put it this way, they're not betting the future of the company on A1GP being around next season.

Feasible for sure, but still raises the question of communication - A1GP officials can think, but the track officials do the "doing."

Weather for Laguna per Weather.com

Rain..Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The track actually drains quite well. Crews can work during the darkness to fix problems.

If those photos were taken in the last few days, I can understand the issue. A deep trench right on the outside of a corner!

Here's hoping we get a good weekend of un-interrupted racing.

It is safe to say that Autosport didn't pick up this story from the Express but that they did get confirmation from A1GP officials, although no general press release was issued - presumably this was a matter of timing. Before anything could be released, I would think that there was a good deal of discussion between the venue and A1GP, with the upshot being that the event was back on. This certainly doesn't appear to be a case of anyone working off anything but the correct information at the time of publishing.

Hey all,

Walked the track yesterday morning and I can see why they had safety concerns, some of the run-off areas were badly effected by rain but there were loads of people working to repair the damage and it was looking starting to look good.

Walked down the corkscrew and I have added respect for the drivers, it was scary walking it but driving it at speed......WOW! It's one hell of a corner!
