Historic FF

Does anybody know of an up to date website that would contain the results of last weekend Cadwell meet?
The "official" site http://www.historicff.org.uk seems woefully out of date

Paul. Try the HSCC Website on www.hscc.org.uk . It was agood race but unfortunatly Neil Fowler failed to start the race. By the way the idea of pre 71 F Ford racing was mine and luckily it has proved a great sucess.

Paul. I think Neil ,qualified on pole by quite a margin, but failed to start due to ignition problems. The race was one by young Mr Minshaw.

What marques were represented at this race? It makes me nostalgic for my old Winkleman. Probably one of the first FF's in No. America. An ill handling beast to be sure.

I'm going off at a tangent here, I'm afraid, but is a Winkellman the same thing as a Palliser?

I recall the Palliser name, but I don't remember if it was in connection w/ Winkelman. It's probably a successor because I didn't see many new Winks after 70 or 71. Maybe someone with more knowledge or a better memory can help!

I think they were called Pallisers in the UK, and Winkelmanns in the States. They certainly didn't have a reputation for poor handling, and were quite successful in the early seventies. I've just found an old brochure that confirms this. They were designed by Len Wimhurst, who had been at Brabhams, I think. The brochure proudly proclaims that "During 1969, more Palliser-Winkelmann Formula Fords were registered than any other make"

You wouldn't be implying my car had a bad driver, would you? By the time I bought my Winky in '74 it had been pretty much passed by (literally) by Lola, Lynx, Zinc, Royale, Reynards, Dulon, Crossle, Merlyn...uh, pretty much everyone, I'm afraid.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but it's great to see there's still interest in the old FF's in Britain, if no here.

historic FF

In era Palliser's were pretty competitive in the hands of Bob Evans and Peter Lamplough. Len Wimhurst who designed them had previously worked at Brabham and the Palliser design borrowed from his previous experience.

Roger Keele was a works driver for Palliser in the early seventies. I have an article comparing several race cars , including the Palliser, in an old copy of Autosport. I will scan the feature and post it here soon.

Historic FF

Just a note to Neil C in Ann Arbor - there is a very active Historic FF scene in the US. Most notably Monoposto Racing - http://monoposto.com - but also all the other independent vintage race organisations - SVRA, VARAC, VSCDA and VARA and others out west. Current cut-off date is December 1972 but another later group will likely emerge soon.

The Palliser name was lost when Mark Konig bought out the project and they became Nomads. In the States they were either called Nomads or Winkelmanns if they had the American produced bodywork. The Nomad name changed hands again in 78 when Frank Coltman and Geoff Creber began producing their own designed Formula Fords. I worked part time for the company which was based at Silverstone circuit, initially in the the old fire station unit and then evetually in the newer units opposite the Silverstone clubhouse. The later cars had some fairly revolutionary ideas including the fuel tank being mounted on the floor under the drivers legs and we also tried the water radiator between the engine and rollover hoop, this was well before Swift and Van Diemen tried this particular location. Unfortunately Frank Coltman passed away several years ago but Geoff Creber,as far as I know, is still around and regularly props up the bar at Towcester Conservative Club!
