Hi Dan. I have interest for story and chassis historic from B47 only Derek Mc Mahon and Helmut Bross.
Example the story of 47-79-02.
Derek Mac Mahon (Roe), Gerry Amato, Patrick Lecompte (1981 - 1982 F3 french championship), Bernard Pourchet (french hillclimb with Citröen engine) and now Dominique Kieffer (restored for French Classic Formula 3)
I am looking for the story of the other B47 chassis

1979:
McMahon has three cars initially:
Devaney [chassis 3?]
Jordan [rented to Rick Gorne at British GP] later sold to Amato?
Johansson
Roe [you say chassis 2 what is your evidence?] Run by John Clark not McMahon I think
KWS have three cars by 1 April 1979, one or probably two of these subsequently to Bross.
Trivatello has at least one car for Gianlucca Messini and possibly a second, since by 1982 there are two B47s running in Italian F3.

Chassis 8 appears for Devaney as a development car in late spring, and I think this was probably the works test car. Rented to David Warner at British GP and Martin McCarthy at the end of 1979 season. Rebuilt by Richard Brown to B49 spec in 1982 [and given plate from B49-02], then Chris Knapman, Dave Whitehead and to Pete and Sue Griffiths.

John Lewis appears with a car later in the season which may be built outside the series [he was mechanic at the works] or a rebuild of a McMahon car

So ten or eleven built if we include Lewis as a new car.

Chris

Chris
Chassis 8 has now been sold by Sue Griffiths to Graham Henson. It has had the 2.0 Millington engine removed and is now up for sale again as a "project".

Are you sure Gerry Amato had 2 B47s Papa? When he bought one, late 79, he already owned a March 773 and an RT1, so I'm not sure why he'd also need 2 B47s...Roe was run by the RAM team (from memory) that year, backed by David Clark Cars and Riva Watches.

The car was for sale (Sue was eventually asking £16,000) for a long time before Greyham Henson brought it, then he started asking £20,000 for it, or £10,000 for the car less engine. I looked at the car and there would be a lot of work and expence to put it back into F3 speck as well as having to come up with an engine which would set you back about £9,000.
The car was never very good and you would not want one so I can not see that it would be worth more than £16,000 when finished which makes the car worth no more than £5,000 at best. But as I say, everyone says that they were dreadfull, especially compared to the B38 and B43.

Hi Richard. I know lot of people have bad opinion on this car but remember for the first race of 1979 vandervell formula 3 championship Roe is in front line and finish 2nd. Not bad for a bad car. Later during the championship this car finish 1 and 2 (round 9??) and Stefan johansson have one lap record in a round (i forgot wich one).
So, just I want to know historic of cars from Derek Mc Mahon Racing and it's difficult to have any information. Thank you one more Richard for your interest

Thats true Papa F, but as the year went on and the Marches got developed, the B47s slid further down the field. The race where Devaney and Roe finished 1-2 was very wet, and owed more to their, considerable, driving skills than the B47 itself. Shame, as it was a v distinctive car, and had it been better, Chevron itself may have survived for a few more years.

Race Record

The 'results' for the B47 are from the F3 races I saw in 1979:

25/03 - Silverstone - Rd 3 Vandervell F3 - Eddie Jordan 7th
16/04 - Thruxton - Rd 6 Vandervell F3 - Stefan Johansson 6th
20/06 - Donington Park - Rd 5 Euro & Rd 8 Vandervell - Michael Roe 4th
03/06 - Donington Park - FOCA F3 Trophy Race - Micahel Roe 1st
13/07 - Silverstone - F3 Qualifying Race - Alan Smith 1st; David Warner 4th
14/07 - Silverstone - Rd 13 Vandervell F3 - Michael Roe - 7th
11/08 - Osterreichring F3 Race - Jochen Dauer 9th
15/09 - Oulton Park - Rd 17 Vandervell F3 - John Lewis 9th

NB at the Donington Park meeting 20th may there was a European FSV race where Jac Nelleman won and Kurt Thiim was 4th in the FSV equivalent B50 model.

At the TNF Northern meeting last night, Steve W showed us some excellent pics of the Roe B47 and sundry climbing B47/48/49s, which I presume where modded B47s mainly. I've asked him to put them up on here, or the other place.

B47's

I have a friend who has just bought the ex Johannsen car with the intention of running it with a BDA in the Midland Hillclimb Champs this year....will find out the chassis no if you like. I know he bought it from Roger Cock if this helps.

Just checked out the scanned images I have on file and I haven't as yet got anything of the Roger Cock car. As soon as I do I'll post it!
