I'm pretty doubtful its a record - suspect the sixties may have seen bigger grids... possibly even the fifties.

Biggest club racing grid I've ever seen was 54 cars doing a standing start on the bottle neck grid at Montlhery in 2004 - suprisingly there was a big pile up.

I was led to understand that many circuits, in the medium past at least, had much smaller maximum grids on their permits though...

I think Silverstone GP was licenced for 80-ish starters for the Britcar 24 hour race last year, although that capacity was not used.

Sam - you've obviously not read Al's rules...its gotta be in the UK.

Yes the 24hr may have started more than 44, but I don't know how many it was.

Edit: A little research has come up with the fact that there was 40 classified finishers...I i think they definately started more than 44 I'd have said.

There are 44 classics entered for the Oldies But Goldies Jack Sears Trophy race at Castle Combe on Monday 17th April. 42 can start so there are 2 reserves. Maybe this will beat the Caterham Super Graduate 41 car grid at the last Castle Combe meeting?

How about 43 Club Formula Ford NW at Anglesey 26th March, then 51 at Oulton six days later. These are single championship rounds.
There were 66 at Oulton for one round last season.
Due to these entry levels, we have to split the grids at 1989 and run two races for Pre90 and Post89 cars. Other UK FF1600 series don't get more than one maximum grid size of entries - sorry Harry Potter.
So Al's rules or not, I'm staking my claim.

Right but you split the grids thats not what I am talking about, on Saturday we have 44 cars ON THE ONE GRID not split or staggered or anything else, as I said we had over seventy cars entered in the Modprods before but they were on different grids, this is different.

Graduates gets 80+ per round; we have to split them across three grids. I'm sure someone from Stock Hatch will be a long in a minute...

But the thing is they can't get any more than the circuit can take as allocated by the MSA and as it is (a) on the GP circuit (more starters) and (b) the first season that larger grids have been allowed by the MSA I reckon this could be a first. Obviously it will be equalled but a first is a first and also how many times have stock hatch ran on the GP (0?)

I know it's outside Al's rules, but seeing over 160 cars take the grid at the Ring last year for the last VLN round was quite impressive ( although they sort of stagger them a bit )

If we can get a few more entries, can we have a round at the ring ?

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s If you go on the Zandvoort website, they run race meetings for clubs who only want to run one race - the circuit accepts a number of them, and can then put on a full meeting, but each club is only in hock for it's own race.
According to the michelin route thingy, it's about 3 hours from dunkerque, and Norfolk line run dover- dunkerque routes for about 24p return
(Ok a slight exageration) could be worth thinking about for 2007 ?

the difficult bit is licences, Rod looked into some europoen venues other than the BARC/BRSCC croix meetings, but they would of required everyone to have a minium of a national A licence, which you cant do with a Nat B championship
