It's a shame not everyone can get it, but hey the new season starts now, so it doesn't matter so much. As you say we needn't look to last season now. Would be nice to have more behind the scenes documentaries like this, maybe we could have one following a particular team?

Having a Drive to Survive documentary around xmas sounds good. Be good to have something on the telly to keep us from starving of racing coverage

So clearly there is something going on that is odd. Such as... team level veto on content? So it comes a across less genuine and more manufactured, which leaves me feeling it could have been much better.

Covid conditions dictated that the Netflix crew couldn't follow as many multiple teams or drivers over the course of a race weekend, so they could only focus on one at a time really. I guess they had the 'Mercedes episode' for Russia and had other focusses. No Hulk either.

Here is a fun stat from last year. If only races on the original calendar counted towards the standings, this would be the final result.

This is a nine-race season made up of: Bahrain, Spain, Austria, Britain, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, Russia, Abu Dhabi (Anniversary, Styria and Sakhir not included).

1. Lewis Hamilton 175
2. Valtteri Bottas 132
3. Max Verstappen 132
4. Lando Norris 67
5. Daniel Ricciardo 60
6. Pierre Gasly 57
7. Carlos Sainz 56
8. Alexander Albon 54
9. Lance Stroll 44
10. Charles Leclerc 42
11. Sergio Perez 38
12. Esteban Ocon 36
13. Sebastian Vettel 16
14. Daniil Kvyat 6
15. Antonio Giovinazzi 2
16. Kevin Magnussen 1
17. Nicholas Latifi 0
18. Kimi Raikkonen 0
19. George Russell 0
20. Romain Grosjean 0
21. Pietro Fittipaldi 0
22. Nico Hulkenberg 0

1. Mercedes 307
2. Red Bull 186
3. McLaren 123
4. Renault 96
5. Racing Point 82
6. Alpha Tauri 63
7. Ferrari 58
8. Alfa Romeo 2
9. Haas 1
10. Williams 0

I'm not sure if any interesting conclusions can be drawn from this. I just find the alternate championship result interesting.

If races that had three or more different vowels in the country name were included then Hamilton would be champion.

The most races that can be included for Bottas to be champion is nine. With ten races (Austria, Styria, Anniversary, Belgium, Italy, Mugello, Russia, Imola, Sakhir, Abu Dhabi), Hamilton and Bottas would be tied on points, but with Hamilton winning because he had more wins. In this situation, the fastest lap point would actually decide the title, as Hamilton got it more often.

Obviously these stats don't actually mean anything, but it might be an interesting way of determining what the most dominant season in history was; by seeing how many races would have to be removed from the season (in this case, eight, or 47%) for a different driver to be champion.
