Button Interviews

The Guardian's Donald McRae wrote interesting article about Button.

http://sport.guardian.co.uk/formulao...180217,00.html

Some interesting stuff:

"I'm contracted to BAR for the next two years," he begins dutifully, "and so that's where I'm going to be."

Button, however, cannot quite help himself. He pauses and laughs again before adding the intriguing rider - "for the moment".

The clear implication is that (writer's interpretation), if Frank Williams came calling, Button would find it difficult to resist.

A clear indication that Button knows he can get the writer to write what he wants

I thought the contract with Button was for 2 years with a possible 2 year extension. IOW, if BAR is a flop then he may be allowed to leave. JB has a huge decision to make. BAR is a better funded team than Williams but Williams has been a top team for a long time now. The first half of the season will determine what JB does.

BAR better funded? I thought they are undergoing a transition period what BAT pulls out?

Unfortunately, Button indeed is now in a crossroad with hard decisions to make, which would have a huge impact on his career.

To stay with BAR:
It's always better to win with a team which u help bring to the front, than to just inherit a great car to win. Honda seems to commit to compete and beat Toyota, and DR is a manager he can trust upon to bring out the best in him. Everything is starting to go great now, so why move?

To move to Williams.
History isn't made up..and Williams is not one of the top teams in history for nothing. History showed the team's muscles, and with Head/Frank+BMW, results is there for the taking. They had a very solid foundation, and Williams seat don't always come easy. Furthermore, Williams is still a more prestigious seat.

So which to choose? Staying with BAR may be slightly more risky (will the team suddenly lose competitiveness due to inexperience to compete at the front end?), but the possible rewards are also much greater.

Sigh..it's hard when things go well too, isn't it?

BAR Honda is very well funded. Honda is not exactly broke. Also Honda is not in F1 to beat Toyota, they were there before them and are not concerned with teams behind them. They are concerned with beating Ferrari. Some of Williams' victories came with the same company that is powering the BAR.

IMO the logical decision would be to go to Williams. He would no longer be the #1 driver but would still be more likely to be a title contender. If next year BAR are able to make the type of ground up that they made this year then they could fight for wins. Then with another huge leap they may contend for the title. If he wants the title as soon as possible maybe that is his best bet.

Now, there is still the chance of BAR Honda actually making the leaps and bounds...

Toyota is the best thing to happen to Honda in F1, giving them the kick in the ass they needed.

Its not Honda I'm worried about, but BAR. I think if Honda keep the preesure on, they can compete with BMW and Mercedes, but can BAR compete with Williams and Maclaren?

So far BAR is beating Maclaren and are pretty close to the Williams pace. One of the assumptions that people make and that I dont understand is that Toyota will be a top team because they are well funded but BAR Honda who are better funded than Williams and pretty much on par with Maclaren in money spent will always be an also-ran.

I see the difficulty in Buttons choices. One way to look at it is no matter what he will still be rich.
I am sure there is at least one ex-racer that would encourage JB to move on and not fall for the hype.
