Osella should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
GT numbers

The FIA series is full, BELCAR and FFSA have lots of entrants, Le Mans can afford to turn them away...

but British GTs has only a handful!!

what can be done to up the numbers??

or am I worrying prematurely, and later rounds will be full?

what's BELCAR's secret?

ps who says Clios don't belong in GT? 2-litre cars and mid-engined hatchback type cars should be encouraged, in my book! One of the many cool things about our type of racing is the variety of racers and machinery, and even, dare I say it, speeds!

I think you might be worrying a tad early. There are two more TVRs, the factory team, entered at the next round. If the Darrians ever get the green light (very doubtful) to run they'll make a great addition.

The problem is cost, the cars are there, there are people to peddle them, just no one can afford to run them.

I think other problem for British Gt´s is to be in Islands, for European teams is more easy (and cheap) to run in other national championships.

BELCAR's secret ?
Well first of all the combination of GT's and Touring cars. And the division in those categories, you can basically run any car as long as you fit in a rollcage and some other safety things.
Secondly, in Belgium we only have two championships for GT cars: Belcar and the Touring Cup. The Touring Cup is down on entries this year; but it still is a great class to start racing activities in for any team, even those with low budgets. And teams easily make the step up to Belcar if they find the bigger budget.
Thirdly, we only have two circuits (Zolder and Spa) and one trip to another country (France or Germany) in the series, which means that transportation isn't a problem. Belgium isn't a big country so a few hours by car gets you to any of the circuits.
And last but not least: the Zolder 24 hours, and recently also the Spa 24 hours(for which Belcar GT cars are elligible in the National GT class), are races that appeal to people. With a relatively low budget you can actually do a 24 hour race, which is for many drivers a dream come true.

Perhaps a fifth: the rules package allows for a great diversity of cars in the GT category. I remember we had a Dauer Porsche racing here a few years ago (2000 or 2001, I'm not sure). And those rules also encourage teams to build 'specials' like the PSI or GLPK Porsches 996 Turbo, the BMW's Z3 GT without factory input.

The numbers for Round one of the British were a disappointment but there were three other cars at the circuit which will all be back when problems are solved (Jaguar, Marcos and Tech 9 porsche)

A third Tech 9 Porsche is I'm told a definite (probaly from round 3)with GVR looking to start their season as soon as possible after destroying their original 911 in pre season testing. There is of course the promise of a Holden Monaro from mid season too.

With other 911s, a couple of 360s and several others more than possible its not as bleak as it perhaps seems.

hold on a bit and the series will be a lot better looking, and remember this is the first season with the new class, we may have to wait for next season to see the full impact. remember that the GT Association didnt announce the changes until very late last year leaving it too late for many people. this season will be good, but in my opinion next season will be even better

They've gone to the FIA series.

Lister were already there, but Graham Nash has taken his Saleens over.

I don't know if it's competitive for the GT class cars to stay in the series. The GT-class machines have to pit twice as opposed to the once for the others. Perhaps that is why there are no GT cars left. As for the Saleen/Lister, I understand they'll be in the FIA series.

Are the Darrians totally out of the question now?
