Cable TV for the Motor Sport fan (whats on all TV this week ?)

Some time ago, an NZedder asked about what sort of motorsports/car shows were available on cable TV. Here's an update of what I get on Foxtel for about $75/month:

Top Gear (BBC)
5th Gear (Lifestyle)
A Carography (How To)
Life in The Fast Lane (How To)
Automobile Biography (History)
A Racing car is Born (Discovery)
Inside Speed (Fox Sports 2)
Motorsports Asia (ESPN)
IRL live (ESPN)
Future of the Car (Discovery)
IRL Infinity Pro (ESPN)
Grand Am (ESPN)
NASCAR live (Fox 1)
NASCAR Busch Series (Fox 1)
The Fast Lane (ESPN)
Grand Prix (1964 movie) in July (TCM)
Indycar Racer (Nat Geographic)
V8 Supercar replays with no ads (Fox 1)
NHRA Today (ESPN)
NHRA Qualifying (ESPN)
NHRA (ESPN)
Winning (1970 movie) in July (FOX Classics)
Mothers Car Show (ESPN)
Motorworld (Fox 2)
BTCC (Fox 2)
World Touring Car Title (Fox 2)
FIM Speedway GP (Fox 2)
World Superbikes live (Fox 1)
Moto GP live (Fox 1)
Classic Car Restoration (How To)
Le Mans GP live (ESPN)
DHRA (ESPN)
Enzo Ferrari Doco (Biography)
Racing Through Time (Fox Sports) - fantastic series!
Tricked Out (How To)
Rides (Discovery)
American Chopper (Discovery)
Junkyard Wars (Discovery)
WRC (fox 1)
Idesign (How To)
24 Hour Le Mans Highlights (Fox 1)
Rebuilding A Race Car Legend (Discovery)
Ultimates (Discovery)
Rockcrawling and Offroad Challenge Series (ESPN)
NARA (ESPN)
Rally World (Fox 1)
Driving Design (discovery)

and any number of "one-off" docos as well...

But - take my advice and invest in a DVD Hard Disk Recorder/Rewriter to keep the missus off your back...PLUS, you can save them forever.

It is shown in full on ESPN. I caught half of the Zolder round earlier this year, presented by Gary Lee (who also commentates on the IRL for ESPN), and commentated by Jonathan Green (who commentates on the World Superbikes). It wasn't listed though, and i haven't seen one on since.

The round from Bilbao is being shown live later this month. This is the first round that i have found listed in the guide though.

Motorsport Asia in itself gives decent coverage (not 30 second highlights) of ALMS, British Rally Championship, DTM, Irish Road Racing (motorcycles - fantastic stuff!), European Rallycross etc etc

TSR has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Having the top Foxtel Package, the only two things I wish Foxtel had were

1.F1 Races
2.A dedicated Motorsport channel.

We can only hope.

Yes, forgot the Renault World Series...

Also European Drags in summer. And British Superbikes Fox Sports). And the search for a Superbike series (Fox 1). And the Search for a GP Racer series (Discovery).

I also wish F1 was on ... because it would be LIVE not 45min-1 hour delay (and you could have Live Timing in unison with the coverage).

But I'm not complaining (just the missus-"we're not watching cars again")...

The Reno series is listed as the GP of .......I think there is one this weekend?

To keep track of ESPN programs go here = clicky

There is a chance of Foxtel doing a FoxSports 3 motorsport channel from Fri through Mon as they did years ago with Super League.....might be next year or the year after.

That 'Natural Born Racers' is great stuff isn' it.

Top effort putting the list together deeks6,

In addition to these; there is also over the course of the year;

- FIA GT Championship
- AMA Superbike Championship (plus occasionally the AMA Supersport and Superstock races)
- AMA Supermoto
- Australian Supermoto & European Supermoto
- Speed World Challenge GT and Touring Cars
- Occasionally Trans-Am (but not lately) and other Grand-Am support races
- FIM World Endurance Championship
- SCCA ProRally from America
- Wheeler Dealers on Discovery Channel
- They occasionally play the 'Champions' series of video's as well, including Alan Jones, Niki Lauda, Mike Hailwood, Barry Sheene etc but this is mostly over summer.
- Similiarly done usually over summer is Fox Sports Gold, which you can usually find some semi-old (dating back to mid-90s) 500cc and World Superbike races from the FOX Sports archives featured regularly.
- And after all this i'm sure there is still stuff we have missed

And it wasn't repeated this year unfortunatly, but last year FOX Sports ran 'Big Day of (insert sport name)' over a period of weeks, and it included a Big Day of Motorsport, and featured 24 hours straight of motorsport programming.

Not having it listed explains how I missed it. Round 1 from Zolder was on Motorsport Asia during the past week. There were some very big shunts.

Monster Garage on Sat and every now and then the History Channel run a series...the History of Holden (2 Hrs with Bathurst clips)...75 Years of Ford (1 hr and has some Bathurst clips) and there are a couple of others in that series (The History of the GT Falcon I think)

... and they do a series on the History of Automobiles.....which gives me the impression it is made in Aust around the mid 90's plus they have some Vintage car stuff on as well at times.
The History of Automobiles is a really good watch.

.........and keep an eye on ESPN for Tractor Pulling...I promise you that the top class has some of the wildest machinery you will ever see!!!

AS a stocking filler on the WSB telecast on Sun nights the often run old WSB races.......I think I saw the Gobert one (what a waste)

....and I agree that the Natural Born Races is a good watch (oh to be young and cocky)

Geez, I didn't realise there was so much motorsport on Foxtel.

It'll be installed on Wenesday, and I can't wait.

I hope they repeat that Day of Motorsports - I got it taped (a lot of it) but can't use the video any more (finally got the reciever/dvd recorder/foxtel/TV hooked up - fluked it and don't wanna lose it) - it was brilliant. However, they do a lot of the Racing Through Time over summer and lots and lots of one-offs. I'm gettin the lot this time.

Thanks for the help with the shows missed, people

Not that I'm an ad for Foxtel but it was worth all the money and more to get the motorsports/cars stuff for me. The bonus is you get other sports (AFL/Cricket etc) AND my missus gets her movies and arty-farty stuff.

But I promise I will get a heap of this on a P2P. I actually missed the 50 years of Holden recently coz I forgot to set the timer properly. Damn.

well Ive added the next week of stuff only on Fox 1 and 2 and ESPN and Channel 10 (allthough channel 10 is only up till wednesday as i dont have past then)

I think its a good idea to have a thread like this so we can keep track of what we want to watch. maybe we should do a TV schedule for every upcoming week ?

Inside Speed on FS1 is basically a copy of the previous weekends Speedweek episode from SBS.

inpitlane should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It would be remiss of me not to mention for Melbourne readers that also this week on C31 is:
Tuesday
7.00 pm Two Wheel Tourque
8.00 pm MX TV (motocross) (R)
9.00 pm The C Word (Could be anything?) (R)
9.30 pm In Pit Lane Aporschapart 944 challenge Phillip Island

Wednesday
7.30 pm Rodders Life

Thursday

7.00 pm 4WD TV

Most of these shows are also repeated several times in the day or Midnight to Dawn.

BTW, According to the last set of Oztam ratings of the stations top 10 shows 6 of them are the Motoring/Motorsports shows.
Rodders Life is now rating it's socks off.
