Alfaholic, we think the misfire developed as the engine got slightly hotter, although it didn't overheat, it just seemed to run flat & misfire?
The reason for going was so that Daniel could get seat time, which he did. Btw he would love to see any photos anyone has of him - white Mk1 Escort no 44 in the Sports v Saloons class ABC races. |

Hey gang - awesome day and it wasn't only the breakfast that was good, had the roast turkey for lunch and a good job we had an hour as I could hardly walk afterwards (eyes are bigger than my belly)
Have just finished processing the days photo's and they are uploading now so give it a couple of hours and they will all be up. Cliff - got a shot of the Mexico with a steam plume front left as you look at it, lasted a couple of laps then stopped, once the photo's are uploaded I will add it here for you. .DAVID. |

Gallery is finally online HERE will try and select a few to post shortly.
Thank you all again for a superb days racing and a huge thank you to 'Real Motorsport Ltd - RML' for rescuing Mallory - and of course to the marshals, I don't think I have ever seen it where the marshal count exceeds the drivers lol. .DAVID. Cliff - hope you find the problem. |

Thanks David, some great shots there, as ever.
Looks like it's the rad cap, so will try a new one first. |

The radcap looks like a good place to start. Just spotted this one as I work through my shots so thought I would post some evidence. Not enough for me to see it at speed as Daniel passed by and standing at the Elbow I looked for signs of liquid on the track but there was nothing obvious - instant evaporation I would suspect. Click to see it larger and you should be able to see the water from the pressure release/overflow pipe. I'll get the larger versions to you soon. There are a few. ETA: Checking shots from later in the race at the same place I can see the outlet pipe but nothing coming out of it suggesting that it dumped coolant eat the start and then settled for whatever it had left. No oil smoke that I could see so that would suggest the oil was not getting too hot. Strange, maybe. Last edited by grantp; 21 Jul 2014 at 15:26. Reason: Additional observations |

I really enjoyed the day, the company, the breakfast, the racing and returning to see an old friendly circuit. There is a lot of goodwill for the circuit from many spectators and I hope it encourages RML to run more car meetings next season.
It was great to see a full grid of Special and Mod saloons and the support races were entertaining. Took far too many photos, again, but will try and post a few later in the week. |

Know what you mean regarding taking too many photos lol. Few that I like at the moment:
#1 1/250, f/7.1, 125mm, iso 100 - did someone mention thunder? #2 1/250, f/10, 215mm, iso 100 - catch me if you can #3 1/500, f/5.6, 215mm, iso 100 - I'm sorry but something about this Alfa really gets me (love it) #4 1/250, f/8, 280mm, iso 100 - didn't see enough of the Belmont, hope it's nothing serious Going to stop there otherwise I will just keep posting ;-) .DAVID. |

Thanks Grant, great shot & I agree that it seemed to find it's level once it had dumped out most of the coolant.
VivaGT - thanks, for us it's more about the cars and enjoying them David, I agree, there's something about the Alfa.... |

I know it's 'old hat' and you have probably all watched it a thousand times already but put on your rose tinted glasses, turn the volume up for the cheesy music and marvel at the pre health and safety era of Baby Bertha and friends

I would say no different as i was completely oblivious to the fact the boot was open as the car has a partition separating the boot area. When back in the paddock i got out of the car and thought bugger its happened again.

I think Bob has had it a long time. I chatted to him at the Special Saloons Revival test day in 2011 and iirc it's built on a replica Chevron B8 tub with a 2.2(?) Lotus twin cam engine. Might have been bored out to 2.5. Not sure.

I went to Mallory on Sunday and a V8 Sierra attacked Bob's Skoda with unfortunate results as pictured. It was not the only car to suffer bodywork damage, also there was a very high level of mechanical maladies reducing the racing numbers considerably.Best race of the day was a Morgan V8 versus a Porsche Boxster. Most of the race can be seen a few metres back from a Porsche 944 until his retirement.

Thank you all.
I too saw the car at the 2011 revival and it looked superb but knew little of the car's details. Car-contact is the one reason I never went on the circuits. Graham Ex Alan Humberstone Karman Ghia silhouette |
