Asking for a friend. Absolutely nothing to do with my team racing at Lydd this year . MSUK won't be any help with the carnet as it's an "independent" meeting.

https://m.truckerworld.uk/2021/01/hg...ence-forum/The permits are needed for HGVs going through Kent to Channel ports .Possibly to make sure that trucks were not shortcutting & missing the waiting areas . But as the massive queues the BBC claimed from 1st Jan have not happened , there is probably not a lot of police presence to enforce something that is not needed .

Sounds like an increased VOSA presence, hopefully it will be all settled down by the time racing re-starts. Given that the fines are £300 per time and only £32k in fines, that's only around 110 lorries out of the thousands coming through that don't have the right papers. Pretty good.

Micro breweries seem to have popped up everywhere in recent years.

I have seen suggesting that many find it difficult to survive very long for a number of reasons. In some part that might be the availability (or lack of) of the rarer ingredients that make their products special or unique to them.

I guess the bigger brewers can buy ahead in bulk and have recipes that they can adapt according to availability and simply make more of the brand names for which ingredients are readily available.

Speaking of "specialities" my most recently acquired Son-in-Law introduced me to an outfit that delivers a selection of specialised craft beers on a monthly club basis. All quite interesting. Most notably how many independent cans and bottles from different parts of the world can have distinctive beer styles that taste almost identical.

In the last box there there was a small can of something with the word "forest" in the name and some trees, notably pine, listed in the ingredients. It was "interesting" for the first couple of mouthfuls and at 6.5% ABV a small can was perfect. But as one drank more of it I could not help but conclude that its taste was extremely akin to the smell of a typical Pine scented toilet cleaner. Personally I would say identical but other's taste buds may have a finer sense of flavour and smell balancing than mine.

Still, at least in Poland, from where last month's beers were sourced, I suppose there are enough pine trees to ensure supply will not be interrupted if they can build demand for the brew.

Beer 52? I have that too. Trouble is I'm running out of space!

Any good?

I read about the new models as the current 1+ One is now getting tired but in the end went for a cheaper option without 5G since the 5G service map around here is extremely patchy and even if the locals stop burning down the new masts there's probably not much chance of travelling far from home this year. So 5G seems to be something for which I can wait a while. Probably a long while.

However it's interesting to know how others can benefit from the latest advances.

As long as micro breweries don't try the craft beer thing, they are fine. Trying to turn a lager into a real ale puts me off. The UK basic beer is an ale and that, IMO is where it should stay.

One Plus Nord, I'm quite happy with it. MrsMM and MiniMM both have the same - the only downside is there's no headphone jack so you can't charge and listen privately at the same time. I have bought a converter so a standard headphone fits, I believe there is also a splitter that overcomes that problem.

Blue tooth listening device(s)?

Might defeat the charger use though.

My recent purchase seems to have a huge battery capacity but charges in less than an hour.

At the moment I have yet to switch the SIM over - still experimenting with the differences in the other areas of functionality - but a charge with light use looks like it might last about 4 days.

It's a tad bigger and heavier than the old one. Good for the ageing eyes but not so much for putting in a pocket.

Swings and roundabouts.

Agreed.

There do seem to be some especially nice dark beers about but many of the light ones all taste extremely similar.

Great for a quick refresher on a hot day (when not driving) but not to my taste for a winter evening.

It's not been a biggie ATM, just a small adjustment to my charging habits.

Because I often found myself in areas around here that had varying mobile signal strengths for the different providers, I decided at the beginning of last year to purchase a dual SIM Honor phone. And glad of it I was during my sojourn in the hospital, too, as there were some wards that where you could only connect on the O2 network whilst in others only the EE network was available.

I have found that battery life is pretty good with the device, certainly in comparison to my previous Samsung phone.

Actually salient, since we don't currently know if the roaming agreements are continuing. Not massively important in the general scheme of things but certainly something for holiday makers to consider.

The dual SIM approach seems to have become almost standard.

I was tempted by one phone that offered dual sims and a microSD card but the one I got has dual SIM OR single SIM and SD card.

I think with 128GB storage and no plans to download large video files I can forego the SD card if I decide the one phone will replace the 2 (for different businesses) that I use currently.

On the other hand having 2 devices does offer some security or backup in the event of breakdown, theft, etc. Not so much service as they both run on the same network.

After several iPhones and some "experiences", we went for Meizu, Wiko View and more recently a Xiaomi redmi note, 128 GO. Two SIM cards, no need for an SD and quite happy with the battery capacity. The price is not a bargain but makes this one quite cost effective.
Impossible to connect them with our MacBooks, but it was already the case with the iPhones!

Is it the right thread, by chance?

We do know that all the major suppliers have said that they have no plans to change the charging arrangements for roaming. I'm not denying that it is a possibility for the future, of course, but anything is always possible. I used to get a local SIM when I went toTenerife if I needed it for broadband if our on site system went down, but I can actually manage perfectly well without access on my phone as I really only use it for (short) calls and texts.

Important for continental racers / pit crew who use a phone and/or tablet for pitwall live timing display. Spa 6 hours burns a lot of data, hence my EE almost limitless data contract.

Correct. But you can rent a TV inside your box and there are some connections along the old pit wall. A talkie walkie can be worth too, only if it meets the RACB requirements. I seem to remember you have to have an agreement for any system used. Dunno if this rule is followed tho.

Indeed Gerard and it is quite easy to buy a local PAYG sim for data at a reasonable rate although it is less convenient.

Sometimes I wonder why all the onboard systems are not thoroughly checked. Cell phones, connected boxes to the cameras or satellite, all this kind of stuff is not period correct. Not historic. We should go back to the old days with only "panneautage" as we all had. A panel, a piece of chalk and… Bob!

You must have seen in Le Mans films, if not experienced it yourself, when the crew had to give a phone call to Mulsanne, to inform the driver and adjust the race strategy.

If safety is involved, like the Coyote system for LMC, its a good move forward but only if its monitored by the CoC or chief marshals. IMO.

Not something that tends to affect me as I have only raced at Spa once, although I was hoping to do so again at some point in the future. Does seem to state more expense and paper work for those wanting to race in Europe:
