Macau GP

Howdy Campers,

I'm thinking about a trip to the Macau GP this year, anyone been? Any advice on the best Stand to view watch the racing? I would rather not pay the big dollars to sit down by the Lisboa. Anything? Anyone?

There aren't that many choices in Macau. Grandstand in front of pits; grandstand at Reservoir Bend or Lisboa. I don't think there is such a thing as general admission.

Anyway everybody I know always try to get into the pits. It seems to me more and more people get into the pits every year.

There are very few places to view the races at Macau.Reservoir Bend, just after the start line is probably the best spot, and make sure you've got the big diamond TV screen in front of you because otherwise they disappear for ages. Most of the action happens on the hillside and you just can't get out there so you need the screen to follow the race properly.
Most people go for the unique atmosphere, party time and shopping in Hong Kong! The circuit itself is absolutely fantastic, particularly from a drivers perspective, so make sure you drive round it to appreciate just how tight, narrow and unforgiving the hillside part is. You'll also be amazed at just how long the front straight is - got to be a mile and a half flat out to Lisboa.Along with Spa, it has to be one of the best circuits in the World - got to be the ultimate challenge for any driver!

I don't think Macau is a good place to have a trip.

there are not so many good views outside the track.

Yeah I've been to Macau a couple of times, but never for the GP. The front straight is long and wide. It's got to be a real test for the drivers with a straight like that with the twisty stuff.

Are there many TV screens? The romantically named Grand Stand (A) looks like a good bet for my budget.

Mind you the hotels in Macau do hike up their prices quite significantly. Also the Main and Reservoir Grandstands are actually on the in-field, with most access roads closed off. During and after the race it takes quite a while to get out of the circuit.

i'll be in singapore before the race after arriving from brisbane the week before, singapore to macau is around $100 through tiger airways.. i dunno how much race tickets are, i emailed the organisers having said in their press release in august that you can buy tickets online:

Tickets for the Macau Grand Prix are on sale now, and may be purchased from the Macau Grand Prix Committee at email: macaugp@cgpm.gov.mo Price details can be found on the official website at www.macau.grandprix.gov.mo, and tickets range from US$19 to US$88 for race day seats. Two-day race ticket packages are available, as are concessions for students.

well it's time to buy my grandprix ticket. do you guys suggest the lisboa or reservoir bend grandstand? grandstand (a) and (b) are sold out according to this site:

http://www.macauticket.com/moticket_eng/grandprix.jsp

i am thinking of lisboa: http://www.macau.grandprix.gov.mo/mg...ideo/stdm.html

though the seat infront of the tv doesn't seem to be that great, also with reservoir bend doesn't look that great too:

http://www.macau.grandprix.gov.mo/mg.../vt_water.html

is it possible to walk to the other parts of the circuit and spectate along the fence?

To the best of my knowledge, you can only get to other parts of the circuit if you are an authorised press photographer.Truth is,like most street circuits, you will have a limited view where ever you go, hence the reason I strongly recommend sitting opposite one of the large diamond screens.Last year I sat at Reservoir because you can watch the startline displays, see all the pitlane activity and you are near the footbridge into the paddock.

Not this year, too busy. If you are going to choose Reservoir, you really want to select a seat fairly high up and opposite the pit lane exit.Don't know whether that's Grandstand A or B but it's definately the one FURTHEST from the startline. From here you can see the diamond screen, watch the cars through Reservoir and the run down to Mandarin.
