Steve Burns should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Edwina Overend Memorial Trophy Race

The second running of the Edwina Overend Memorial Trophy for FF1600 cars will take place at Mallory Park on Sunday 5th June.

The event will consist of a 20 minute qualifying session and 2 x 20 minute races, the second of which will be a points scoring stand-alone race in the National King of the Kent's FF1600 Cup.

The winner of the second race will be awarded the Edwina Overend Memorial Trophy.

Entry forms are available by clicking

http://www.brscc.co.uk/championships... Pack 2005.doc

Entries are still available and with no other FF1600 activity in the UK over that weekend it promises to be a good event, so get your entries in now.

the entry seems quite a lot Steve? Maybe the BRSCC should match the BRDC and MSV for value for money?

£175 for an MSV round is spot on. Keeping the price at £285 will kill it off as people can do a nice double header at Cadwell, Brands Hatch etc for more than £100 less.

Steve,
Still no reply to my email to H.O. - on a similar subject - from early last week. Would you chase them up please?
The replies so far are backing up what I said in the mail.

I've not posted on here for a while, however I think this thread could warrent it.

Last year this event for me personally was a massive success, great atmos and good fun a real pleasure to attend. The cost if I'm right was £140. What in the world of sports has happened where this has more than doubled to £285.

Last year the BRSCC didn't run this event (was it morgan sports cars ?) enter the BRSCC and double the price......

Could somoene explain whats going on here with this, or have I got my wires crossed and my races / fee's mixed up.

I thought I had lost my sanity at paying £200 to race at Donington especially as I couldn't justify testing there (hadn't been there for ten years). This is probably better value and I would like to enter as it was a very good event last year. But at almost £300 for one days fun (mid season) my brain has to rule my heart and I will have to miss this one, shame.

I think this maybe the last year of KOK as I think MSV will grow much bigger next year as long as the prices stay the same. I paid £175 for 2 races at Oulton Park and walked away with £120 in prize money (not that I have got it yet!). The races were top billing and apart from the Radicals getting the garages (i understand why they did) it was a great day. Even the weather didn't dampen peoples spirits. With so many races on offer with MSV value for money why on earth would you pay £285 for 2 sprints round Mallory Park. I would rather drive to the mono round at Spa?

Darcy M

The MSCC are running the next SoM round on 26th June at £140 and also have a separate non-championship trophy race at £95.

(I do believe that last year's Edwina had significant cash sponsorship but the BRSCC haven't even bothered to call those people to see if they are willing to sponsor it again...)

Yes Paul and I think John Miller did as well. I guess he has first hand knowledge of the BRSCC failing to ask if he would like to sponsor it again!!

Last year's cash was paid as a prize fund IIRC, as opposed to reducing entry fees.

Is it purely down to cost or are there other factors at play such as an already crowded calendar and the misconception that Mallory is a "specialist" circuit (ask Ed, eat my dust, Moore if his lack of specialist local knowledge hindered him there last year )

it was mentioned last year that too many races could be bad for the formula and I think that is now starting to happen.

There seems to be too many races for people to do. Which I know on one side it is good but the other side is what has happened to the EMT. I would have looked at it if it had been £175 and I know people would say that it is "only £110 difference" but that is a big difference to most drivers. You can test for £80 for 1/2 a day so nearly £300 for 2 x 20mins races is not value for money. Do us drivers really care if the race is 20 minutes or 15 minutes?

Going over old ground again but "in my opinion" we should have 6 regional Championship rounds (all double headers). Then have a SMALL national Championship that has at least 3 weeks gaps between any regional race.

Round 1 - Jim Walsh Trophy
Round 2 - Moose Trophy
Round 3 - Edwina Overend
Round 4 - Combe Carnival
Round 5 - FF Festival

FF1600 Finals Meeting - Walter Hays Trophy Silverstone

Maybe have any 4 of the above with all to enter the Walter Hays Trophy?

Set all the prices the same - £150 - why should we subsides everyone else? If they can run 5 x T cars then 40 - 100 x FF1600 will be a bonus. The BRSCC should not jump on the back of FF1600's popularity by raising the prices to suit there poor cash flow. The BRDC have shown that value for money racing is what we all look for and the Silverstone races have been a "must do" for most FF1600 drivers.

Just an idea?

I like the sound of your suggested season and costs, particulary the double header status.

You have obviously stated this point before, have you had any feed back from the BRSCC in the past giving reasoning against it?

Indeed, has it been formally suggested to the BRSCC at all?

I believe the Edwina had 5 entries.

Quoting T-cars is one thing although I seem to recall they pay for the grid?

With regards to subsidising, how many:

Ford Saloons
Sports 2000s
Radicals

are there?

Its being reported that there were six drivers entered. Ed Moore, Richard Tannahill, Justin Dawkins, Steven Jensen, Paul Mason and Neil Hunt with another two or three more drivers on a 'possible' list.

Six!

I'm uncertain whether this proposal has been made to the BRSCC - if it hasn't, we can't expect them to have responded to it.

There are weaknesses in it: for example, it wouldn't fit in with Castle Combe's schedules, and by ensuring that one off races are three weeks clear of any other races clashes will be inevitable between regional meetings. I suspect some people (in the NW possibly) wouldn't want just six meetings. Entry fees do need to be looked at: we need to find the point where income is maximised. Be aware that it isn't commercially feasible to reduce entry fees to BRDC-type levels all of the time.

Radicals probably not the best example these days, but the other two categories are usually dripping with reserves...
