ground clearance period e - f

Last year our scrutineers checked ground clearance in the pre 65 GT and touringcar race (national race under appendix k). They checked with a 100mm block of wood which my TVR almost cut in 2 with the aluminium anti roll bar blocks. This weekend we checked the bumpsteer - so without shockers I did put the car on 100mm ground clearance , the sump and exhaust are lowest parts. The car looked lets say very strange (Paris Dakar TVR). Apart from that I think ground clearance for that car shoud be 60mm. But anyway what about ground clearance in Albion?

Hi Esper, I ,m pretty sure that the required clearance is as you say 100mm at the lowest point of the car.We never had a problem with it.Once we had determined the best spring rates, that is .

Sounds Illegal!

All such ground clearance checks MUST be carried out on a CERTIFIED level surface. The tool used to check the gound clearance must also be certified and should be made of aluminium not wood!

I have seen Scrutineers checking a cars ground clearance on cambered surfaces and on grass!

I find the whole thing somewhat ironic as the F3 Reynard I used to own had in the manual details of the ground clearance I had to run yet the recommended ground clearance was 20mm lower than the MSA regs would allow!

A few years back a Scrutineer started checking the ground clearances and I objected to him checking my car when other cars were not being checked! His attitude was that he was picking on the cars that were likely to fail! When I told him that if he didn't check all the cars I would report him to the MSA he rather grumpily went over to check a bunch of Mod Prod Westfields - the first two he checked failed!

I am uncertain how you would go on if your car is presented in 'original' condition and fails the ground clearance test - I would suggest that the regulations are in error!

you do get exceptions for certain parts of certain cars . . .for example the TCAs on a Cortina are always lower than 4" . . . ecen at girraffe ride height !

Sprint events have their own rules, i was merely explainging why your set up manual was suggesting a 20mm ride height.
