You might try......
Just an idea, but try Jeremy Welch at Denis Welch Motors Sport.
They are based at YOXALL in Staffordshire, and have a history of Austin Healeys in competition. They are in the book, or google them. Well worth a try. Good Luck. |

I'm not sure if 'Wumpletoad' will have recieved my message, as he seems only to have made one post here all those years ago, but on the off chance he has and looks at the thread, here's a photo of the chassis I have bought, and the 'conventional' Yimkin frame. (The picture of the conventional frame and the description both come from an old book on Ford specials, henct the frame being refered to as an 1172)
I've sent pics to Don Sim, and am waiting to hear back from him, but it's a bit unusual - the chassis has no front suspension mounts, implying it is unfinished as described by Wumpletoad, but has at least part of the pedal box, engine mounts and even part of the battery tray....? Was it perhaps adapted from one of the 6 'conventional' chassis? Al |

Incredible ... but great!
Scroll back up through this thread and you'll find my first note looking for information on Yimkin back 2007: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...t=32039&page=8 Now fast forward >>>> I purchased this chassis earlier in the year from (the other) Al and I'm still doing a bit of homework before starting any real work. I've been in touch with Don, Duncan from FJHRA and Ed Glaister and so far as I'm able to piece together the chassis is a Yimkin and was either modified or built after Don Sim sold the company. Also that it used to hang from their ceiling in the Cadogan Lane garage for a while. So hopefully things will be cleared up when a photo turns up or that jogs someones memory. There's also a small feature in this months Classic Cars Magazine with a call for information which hopefully will speed things up. In the meantime I've been pulling things together into a blog so please do feedback if you have any information or forward on to interested parties. Not that there can be very many out there but who knows. I've done quite a bit of work investigating the chassis and it's clearly a Yimkin that's been hacked about so I've highlighted the work so there's a clear view of 'Before' and 'After' with most of the original tubes still being clearly visible and even where bits have been hacked off and relocated. My father used to own the Ed Glaister Yimkin too (only a guess back in 2007) so he's had a good look and given it the 'thumbs up' as he rebuilt his / Ed's from a bare chassis in the 70's. Please do take a look and let me know what you think. http://www.yimkin.co.uk/ Best, Alastair |

Motoring News article Bill Nicholson MGB 286 FAC
I remember a Motoring News article about Bill Nicholson's race MGB 286 FAC. Does anyone remember this and have a publishing date? This newspaper was brilliant and the highlight of the week out of my pocket money when at school!
Does anyone know what happened to this car? |

Yimkin provenance secured
Happy to report back on the previous thread. There's still a long way to go but a photo of the Yimkin chassis taken outside the Yimkin garage in 1963 has surfaced. There's a brief update here:
http://www.yimkin.co.uk/ Does anyone have any ideas what this chassis was intended for ... that seams like a good starting point before any work begins. Any thoughts? Best, Al. |

I would hazard a guess that it may have been considered for Clubmans' racing alongside Lotus 7s and Mallock U2s. It certainly appears to follow their basic shapes.

After it passed through the hands of Sparrow and Pendleton, 1628VC started a new career in Drag Racing and had a huge 7litre Chevy put under the bonnet. When John Suckling found it it was in a desperate state. He totally restored the car in 1998 ready for Tiff Needel to race it at the 1998 Goodwood Revival. A few weeks after that race, 1628VC sold at the first ever Barons Car Auction. The car is still raced today! I would love to see a full resolution shot of the image if that’s possible? Happy to provide an email! |

I own a 1960 TVR Grantura Mk2 Climax that was raced by a Charles Saunders (Initials AC Saunders) at Brands Hatch, Goodwood MM, Snetterton, Cadwell Park & Firle Hill Climb etc between 1961 and 1963. Charles advertised the car in 1964 and seems to have purchased a Lola MK1 which he hill climbed at Valence July 1964 (BTD) and Bodiam Oct 1968 (and probably others). He may have been a member of Sevenoaks and District MC and when the Grantura was advertised the phone number used the TATE Gallery exchange (work number?).
Does anyone have any knowledge of Charles Saunders. I have a few photos (not my copyright) he seems to have worn black rimmed glasses. Thank you for any help. Rob |

Can you give us a few more clues - colour, evidence of previous colours below current one, area of the country where found, details on any scrutineering tickets or advertising on the car? Are the wheel arches cut out or wide arches fitted? I am assuming the Alfa engine was a period fitting and not a recent addition. Does the car look to have been 'retired' from competition many years ago? The registration number would indicate what part of the country the car was originally registered. Peter, I cannot recall any Anglia with an Alfa motor going back to the 60s or 70s. One wonders why there would be when there was availability of Lotus and Cosworth twinkies in the UK.

I agree, Mike. Never heard of that combination before, unless it was a 1961/62 creation - pre-dating the Lotus copy ....err... variation. |

Chassis Number can be obtained from a registration number (or vice versa) if you can find a friendly car dealer who has access to Experian Autocheck or a similar HPI check for the motor trade which uses the DVLA database. Most car forums have someone in the trade who can do a full HPI check for members. Some online HPI checks can also do this for a fee. With both the registration number and chassis number you can them apply for the V5 from the DVLA by filling out a form and paying the fee. Sadly earlier this year the DVLA stopped issuing classic car owners with their cars owner history for a £5 fee on request....under the new data protection rules. https://www.autocheck.uk.experian.com/ |

I've seen a couple of Alfa Twinks in Mk 1 Escorts complete with the 5 speed gearbox but never in an Anglia.

chevron anglia
Here is my dad, Dave Willars racing his Anglia some time around 66/67 I think.
The car was helped to be prepared by Derek Bennett who also raced it from time to time usually if it was raining as Derek didn't like get wet in open cockpits. |

You can still buy a version although not four exhaust ports.
