as an outsider looking in 1985 does actually make sense as its the Appendix J cut off. I can see it might not work for Rovers but there is a strong logic to follow FIA cut off dates given all other areas of historic racing do the same

Yes Simon I guess that is basic logic, but what works for some doesn't for others. A great deal of effort and much goodwill has gone into drumming up support for that particular era of saloon car racing which has finally tempted people to spend money on buying or restoring the appropriate cars.

And they are appropriate.

If vehicles like slightly dubious Mk1 Escorts are able to compete, then why on earth can't some quality regulation correct cars that generally speaking will be well within the 'spirit' of the series?

If something can't be worked out to increase the age limit by a year or two, then surely there is an argument to allow them to race in an invitation class.

As a side note, I suspect THE MRL/TCC might consider going from the 1985 to a 1986 cut off if enough cars from that year cropped up like Volvo, Merkur and Commodore. At the moment it doesn't need to.

Why 1984 ?

It is our decision, not favouring a car, not favouring a manufacturer and also because if we go to 1987 then what is the point of racing a Group 2 or Group 1 or Group 1B ?

We want a maximum of cars to stay out and come on track. The Rover Vitesse was racing in 1983 but maybe with different specifications and then performance but the list of group A cars up to 31/12/1984 is good and will permit a lot of cars to run.

We already have a very nice grid and a big interest so we will see and maybe the doors will open one day, but let's start with this, stay within the rules, and see how it works.

Louis.

As I did a "copy & paste", they are I think the "spaces" as normally we put the class after.
