Amoc Sprint And Hillclimb Series 2014

The AMOC Club is pleased to once more have a Sprint and Hillclimb series arranged for this year.

There are 7 rounds throughout the year - the scores of up to 4 will count for the end of year trophies.

The Series caters for Members with both Aston Martins and those with non Aston Martins.

The events are across the country:

April - Wiscombe Hillclimb, Devon
May - Prescott Hillclimb, Gloucestershire
June - Curbrough Sprint, Staffordshire
July - Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb, Worcestershire
August - Blyton Park Sprint, Lincolnshire
September - Aintree Sprint, Liverpool
September - Curbrough Sprint, Staffordshire

Sprints, where it is just your car on the track, are a great way of taking your first step into competition. You need a Speed licence, at the cost of £43 and a race suit, helmet, shoes and gloves

To register for the Series, or to ask any questions, please contact Peter Preston-Hough, who has kindly organised this for the Club, on astonspeedchamp@btinternet.com

More information and links to the entry forms for each event are available: www.amocracing.org/sprints/4562021823

All of the venues bar one may well be familiar to AMOC members. The other one is Blyton Park. www.blytonpark.co.uk

This is an airfield track near Gainsborough in Lincolnshire. It is owned, developed and operated by Richard Usher who is very amenable to talking about the venue.Since the track was created it has held many prestigious events for motor clubs, trackdays and race and rally car testing.

The challenging track is laid out on a flat airfield with plenty of run-off areas so less likely to be damaging than, say, the hillclimbs. One difference is that the usual running is anti-clockwise so more left than right bends.

It is mainly used for trackdays for both cars and bikes and has a good infrastructure with a clubhouse with catering so breakfasts and lunches can be a sit down affair and there are good camping facilities - showers and toilets - and a few electric hook-ups.

And there's a pleasant pub in the village for evening meals plus a large and well used ice cream parlour!

Well worth a visit for all the family. I'll be marshalling.

David

Part of the fun of doing sprints is the group dinner the night before, so the pub sounds ideal. Can you give me the name of it and I'll get something booked.

Thanks

Anne

Anne, nice spread of events. I wonder whether I can get to the Blyton one; I'm in same county but opposite ends! Are all these events open to the public for spectating?

Hello Anne

Do hope this isn't a kind of 'girding the loins' thing for the event next day!

The pub in mind is the Black Horse in Blyton village - approx 5mins from circuit. 'blackhorseblyton.co.uk' (no www)

The landlord welcomes motorsport folk - it generates extra trade for him - and Richard is a regular. It is a village pub so not huge. The food is good value pub fare rather than pretentious gastropub. We had an excellent Christmas function there. If you want a set dinner I'm sure they'll be happy to oblige.

There are rooms available for those who like a little more comfort or who have overindulged in the real ales. (but they wouldn't would they?)

Hope it all works out.

John - I'll check about the spectating side of the events.

Dave - thanks for the pub details. The days when we all used to be on the start line with the same level of night before headache have certainly gone - fond memories of Curbrough in particular for that one!

Spectators are welcome. No charge. Plenty of parking space and a bank from which most of the course can be seen.

Please spend some money in the cafe and bring a winter coat, even in summer, as it can be wild and windswept - just like Snetterton, Silverstone etc etc
