You can find something here:
http://www.fiagt.com/newsitem.php?key=816
http://www.fiagt.com/newsitem.php?key=819
http://www.fiagt.com/gallery.php?event=58&season=2005
http://www.fiagt.com/gallery.php?event=59&season=2005

can be summed up as a "controlled&equalized" (cost&performance) GT class....

think of it almost as a international (europe) championship of onemake vs. onemake. for example, most of the cars entered are of the single make championship variety, Viper CC, Ferrari challenge, Porsche Cup, etc. it gives drivers of these cars an international stage to compete on as wel as just going against their own makes...

Well, there is a Aston, and a Corvette.. but they are very much closer to street specs than a GT1 is. The performance will be somewhat similar to a SWC GT car.

There are pictures of the test day on the fiagt.com site.

I don't mean to come across as too harsh, but the information on this championship that you're looking for is findable on Google in a very brief period of time, as are photos. Beyond that there is a GT3 thread on the first page of this subforum!

GT3 is essentially the next class down from GT2, with a lot of the same cars that you see racing in GT2 racing in GT3. The main differnces is that the GT3 cars are a lot closer to the road models of the original car than the GT2 cars. GT3 cars tend to have around 400bhp whilst the GT2 cars are around 450-500bhp depending on the car.

If one day GT1 is ever abolished I can see GT2 becoming the premier GT class Internationally in much the same way that GTS/GT2 took over from the old GT1 class back in 1999 and what we now think of as GT3 could well fill the shoes of GT2. The cars are still becoming faster and faster and theres not much differnce between the old GT1 cars and the current breed in terms of pace.

If you think GT3 is strange check out Ratel's new GT4 idea. A series for cars of around 350bhp by the sounds of it so really for cars such as the Porsche Boxter, Nissan 350z etc, but thats for another thread.

Satorian has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
All that aside, it's the future.
At least it seems that way for now. There is lots of interest in the series and manufacturers seem eager to homologate their cars for it.

And I think they are nice to look at, being so close to stock spec.

Are you sure? I'm certain that I read recently that the GT3 DBRS9 was giving about 550bhp.

Correct - the horsepower varies greatly between the different cars. As the GT3 specs don't call for air restrictors the horsepower is largely dependant on the road car's engine performance.

A combination of weight/ride height adjustments is made to equalise the cars. I think it's quite clever when you consider that the Porsche 997 probably has something like 120-150 bhp less than the Viper and Aston.

And let's not forget the Lotus Exige (even though there aren't any racing in FIA GT3, it's homologated), at 285 bhp, about half of the power in the DBRS9.

Apparently there is an "equalisation" test or something like that to ensure that the cars are equal. First I'd heard about was this year.

It's a pretty good championship, big grids, but a lot of very similar looking cars and unknown drivers which could put some people off.
