Brabham Images Help!
Can somene point me in the direction of a good image gallery of F1 Brabhams 1975-90. I just cannot find one. I'm particularly after stuff of the red Martini car of 77 and BMW turbo cars of 82, 83 and 84.
Thanks JA |

Well Jonny.....
""BERNIE ECCLESTONE HAS SAVED ALL HIS BRABHAM F1 CARS FROM WHEN HE OWNED THE TEAM UNTIL 1988 AND HAS THEM STORED IN A HUGE HANGER NEAR BEGGIN HILL AIRFIELD IN KENT, ENGLAND."" Now I'm sure if you ask uncle Bernie he'd be more than willing to let you come out and take all the pictures you like. There is a derth of pictures like you want.... |

Try this website http://www.MotorRacingRetro.i12.com
I haven't had a chance to look at it for a while as I'm always so busy on Ten-Tenth's between brush strokes! Some useful old pics there though from 60s/70s/80s. Good luck. |

The Brabham is a copy of the Chaparral 2J 7 years to Late.

Maisie.
I think there's some confusion here between the BT46(?) and the BT 46B which appeared at Anderstoorp in 1978. Effectively the BT46B was called the "fan" car becuase it had a big fan attached to the gearbox which dragged the car down to the track. It was developed to counter the Lotus 79 Ground Effect car. It was banned (albeit unnofficially) after that one race (which it won) due to a rule concerning moveable aerodynamic aids. However the car pictured above is not (I believe) the BT46B. |

The pic of the Brabham definitely isn't a 46B (or even a 46)
The 46B was only driven by Lauda and Watson, and that's Piquet at the wheel. I think this is the 1979 car. BT48? |

The 46 of course didn't have side pods of that configuration. |

Nelson Piquet in the Ford DFV powered BT49...pic taken at Montreal during the 1980 Canadian GP.
Also, if you want to see the BT49 with Ford power from the 1979 season...go to the Trackside Section under the post "Your best Photo"...my first photo there is of Nelson at the Glen in 1979 |

Actually, when you look at these cars you realise that Gordon Murray had a great eye for lines. That 46 was beautiful.
For info the reason why they couldn't build it with the sidepods a la BT 49 was because the engine was an Alfa Romeo flat twelve. Consequently the engine got in the way of the underbody airflow. |

I agree with you Peter, Gordon's cars ( or most anyway) were very attractive. He tried some radical ideas too...remember the lowline Brabham from 86 I think? The drivers were virtually laying down. He also came up with the concept for the (15 out of 16 GP) winning 88 McLaren. What is it with these South African designers? ( Rory Byrne too). Pure Genius.

My point was that the Chaparral is in no way like the Brabham
