Assuming there are no date clashes, and they can find a driver with a budget, then don't see why they wouldn't be interested. Good thing about TCR is it's an easy conversion from endurance to sprint spec. At the Dubai 24h this year, James Kaye ran the Audi RS3 in the local TCR series sprint race; the team did little more than change ride height and added fuel; and rolled the car onto the grid for the 24h race

BLiTZ should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Group N and Super Touring co-existed for long enough before the latter cannibalised the former to create BTC.

I think if TCR gets a footing in the UK we'll see an eventual merger of the two when NGTC eventually needs a replacement and or starts to fail due to costs.

Currently NGTC is touring car's GTE to TCR's GT3. And the way GTE is carrying on I think we'll have another late 90's GT1 situation on our hands again!

I'm not sure this analogy is ideal - GT3 looks unsustainable too!

So far they don't overestimate themself and know their place behind BTCC. I think that's a good starting point.

I can imagine there are Mini Challenge, VW Cup, Clio Cup drivers and teams that want to compete at a higher level but for which BTCC is a bridge too far.

Very interesting read. Slower, cheaper, customer cars for use as a BTCC feeder series. If it's on the BritishGT support list, all 26 track-side fans will have fun.

I prefer touring cars that roll. V8 Supercars look cooler than Super TC2000 for that reason.

Agreed, I like to see drivers being challenged by a car. I know all cars are challenging to drive on the edge, but it's difficult to get a sense of that with a car that is seemingly stuck to the road.

Can't say I like ABS on the TCR cars either. But that's what customer drivers want/need.

Would be nice, however, to see a non-driver aid and more power variant of TCR for the upper echelons of the class.

TCR cars don't have ABS. Only Endurance version have it.

I saw the TCR cars at Silverstone for the 24H. They were pretty impressive and to be honest, looked about as fast as a NGTC car.

They are reasonably close. Over a 1 minute lap TCR is 1.5-2 seconds slower. NGTC have about 20bhp more so that's probably why

Having seen Morrison's Seat, and Crocker's Honda racing at Knockhill, big grid of TCRs would be great to see.

I can't see TCR UK beating BTCC. Let's start with the grid capacity and quality. I'm under no illusions that TCR will look worse in both aspects. I see TCR UK rather as a 'BTCC Development Series' and don't suspect that this will change soon

Hopefully the driving standards in TCR UK will be significantly better than the British Touring Car Crashfest (BTCC).

Quality?

I see current BTCC has quantity and thrills and spills. On that front it does very well.

Apart from a handful of drivers, there are no names involved anymore.

Neither series are really 'touring cars'.

TCR themselves say they will be competing against Clip Cup, Mini challenge etc and only see themselves as a feeder series into BTCC.

If you say there are no names involved in BTCC, imagine what drivers will be in TCR but I doubt that we will see any significant names. Moreover, the best of these drivers will aim at BTCC or TCR International. TCR UK won't make high level racing.
What about your statement that neither are touring cars? What do you mean?

The quality of BTCC is so high this season, it's very close, so I don't know what you mean when there is no quality in the BTCC. We're not going to get the international levels of drivers we had in the 90s, but we have got the best British tin top drivers and have done for a while

Do you really think that?

Close I can see, but very little quality in any depth.

I think the style of racing and how things are managed means that 90% of those drivers suitable are in GTs and the places that frees up are taken by wannabees with money. Wannabees but neverwillbees...

In years gone by I would definitely have agreed with you, but I think you're being pretty harsh on the current crop of drivers.
