Did anyone ever see the Transit designed and built by Terry Drury Racing with the 5 litre GT40 engine and F1 suspension
this was the mk2 one built in 1971 |

They built one later based on the C100 Group C car from the early 80s IIRC....

Yup, it was called supervan II. More recently Renault decided to shoehorn the bits'n'pieces from a Williams into a Renault Espace. It sounded incredible at Silverstone and gave a real visual/auditory conflict. It was a shame they altered the bodywork so much though, left more or less standard it would have been the ultimate definition of 'wolf in sheeps clothing'.

There was a third version, called unsurprisingly Supervan 3, built in the mid 90's. Seem to recall it was powered by an ex-F1 3.5l V8 Cosworth. Saw it run a demo at Silvertone, may still have a picture somewhere.

Wasn't Supervan 3 built by the apprentices at Ford? I seem to remember it being a Benetton Ford chassis?

Ford in Australia put the Transit into production with a 6 cyl Ford Falcon engine and a lot of people fitted a Ford Falcon 5.8 V8 to them. They make a good tow car!

The original Supervan at the start of this thread was usually driven by Chris Craft when demonstrated at race meetings.

here's the Mk2 Transit it had a 3.9 DFL engine.
The Supervan 3 spec was 3.5 Cosworth HB with CR 12:1 rev to 13800 rpm and gave 730 bhp Gearbox was a Benetton six speed. |

Transit vans
Saw a Transit-based Trike at the Ace Cafe run in Brighton on Sunday, the day after the Speed Trials. It had a truck wheel at the front, double-wheel Transit rear end and a Ford V6 amidships
It wasn't the silliest thing there, either... pics soon! Nick Froome www.bolide.co.uk |

I like the slogan on the back of the WRT Transit - "My other vehicle is a car, but today I'm in a hurry!"

What always amazes me about this forum is the way that threads often seem to have some form of link, however teuous it may be. For example in the 1970's 2ltr Sportscar thread mention is made of Terry Croaker, who, IIRC also drove the Supervan 1, which I saw a few times at both Silverstone and Brands.

Well, our 69 Transit had a 2 litre V4 from Felday and stiffer suspension. Went all over UK & Europe for 4 years towing two car trailer, wheels & tyres, engines, workshop & camping stuff, crew etc.
If it were damp, opposite lock on any roundabout was an easy option; even with a trailer! Superb rig. |
