Team Radio Channels Opened up

This weekend BernieVision is to broadcast the Team and Pit-Car Radio Channels.

Why is this being done now, when the season is effectivley over. Didn't want the world listening in to Ferrari team orders before the Championships were decided?

When will the teams publish their frequencies so fans in the stands can listen in?

If the teams have nothing to hide and want to improve the show for the paying punter, then publish the list.

Even ignoring your Ferrari team orders jibe ("Rubens let Michael past, oh you are already 20s behind" ) teams so have something to hide, all of them.

They do not want other teams to know when they are going to stop etc...

It would be nice to be able to take a scanner along and tune in. I think it is a good idea. We've had it before when they first introduced radios. We've also had it on the telly more recently on digitalF1+. Although this was mainly chit chat and Montoya screaming about penalties , it was IIRC never about strategy. Ferrari gave some of their radio too, but it was usually Michael's end of race speach.

Nigel Roebuck: Ask Nigel 21 June 2001
I recall a particularly memorable one between Lotus's Peter Warr and Ayrton Senna at Monza, when the question of tyre wear was discussed at some length.

Tyre stops were not an automatic feature of Grands Prix back then, and Ayrton was trying to decide whether to pit for new rubber or not. "Ask Goodyear what they think," he said to Warr, and a couple of minutes later back came the answer: "Mmmm, Goodyear say they think you can go the whole way - but it's marginal. Up to you." There was a very long pause before Senna responded: "OK - we go for it..."
Then teams discovered scramblers...

That's great news.

>When will the teams publish their frequencies so fans in >the stands can listen in?

I don't think they ever will and the teams seem to go to great lengths not to reveal their frequencies and sometimes even change their frequencies from race to race.

>Then teams discovered scramblers...

Actually only 1 team uses an encrypted radio (Ferrari). Jordan use a very simple scrambler (which can be got round with several scanners available today). All the rest are in the clear with NO scrambling or encryption.

>It would be nice to be able to take a scanner along and >tune in. I think it is a good idea.

From personal experience taking a scanner is a must for a GP these days. I'm a member of a Yahoo Group called F1Scanner (http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/f1scanner/) and it contains an up to date list of all the F1 Team frequencies and communicatiosn systems.

Jim.

Normally, RDS never show the F1 practices... Stupid me, I was watching it on formula1.com

Even if we don't always get practices live, you should move
over here!

They are catching on to what Nascar has been doing for years. Not long till they strap pushrod V8's into the back of the cars.....

yes on tape.

2001 also has good radio moments. Like Fisichella cocking up on the grid in Malaysia, Ralf swearing at his engineers (does this a lot.) and Montoyas hilarious Deer joke.
