I understand that the winner of the Morgan Challenge races achieved the milestone (of wins) that eluded him late last season! How many races, and any pics, Bob?

I was stuck in bed with a chest infection, so if anyone has any photos I'd love to see them.

A good weekend of racing.
Bentley race was the highlight but good grids and races today. The Alfa grid and race was encouraging. Nice to have a chat with John T. Sillystone weather as bitter as normal Took too many photos, will work through them during the week. |

Loads of photos to come from Sunday - good to say hello to delta and Will Nuthall. Weather was as Silverstone often is ... with sunshine breaking through again at the end of the day

Thanks Bob! I understand that special permission had to be obtained from MSUK for a Le Mans Start to take place. Apparently due to seat belt regs, which probably aren't an issue so much in pre-war cars....
At Le Mans Classic, after taking the traditional start, the cars drive round to the Mulsanne carefully, then stop again so the drivers can be correctly strapped in. They then continue with a normal rolling start..... |

Looking at the pics (thanks all!) of pre war Bentleys mid corner, I can imagine a suspension expert itching to ‘develop’ the front end in order to reduce the outer wheel positive camber......

Seeing the number of snappers present, and knowing that there are only so many gaps in the wire fence, a couple of us decided to stand opposite, and get a different view, however, as we stood poised for action we noticed that the pit was devoid of purple vests! Apparently photographers were not allowed on the wall, so there were quite a few angry photographers left fuming. I can pay to be different. I will be busy with my Morgan duties for a day or so, but will add more pics when I can. |

You are right that special approval was given by MS U.K. for the genuine Le Mans start, where we get in and go, rather than the Le Mans classic version. Le Mans starts were discontinued in the U.K. in the early 60’s as seat belts became mandatory. None of the Bentleys had seat belts fitted, and so we asked for the dispensation, which was ultimately granted. There was much discussion about what was to happen if a car failed to start: fortunately only one car had trouble and the marshalls managed to push start it before the leaders got to the complex........given that it was the first start since the 1960’s I thought the marshalls were great: there was a problem in that the special marks that had been made on the track to position the cars were rubbed off in practice, so we did have to have a second go at positioning the cars before the off! There is a great video of the start on the VSCC Facebook page. Nigel B |

And wait long enough to have a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich while the engine gets to 110 degrees!

First gallery from Sunday now on Flickr - the engaging and characterful 500s. In the case of #62 the frustrating and recalcitrant 500s - the team spent all qualifying trying to get it started. Succeeded as the flag came out for the end of the session ! Love the sprint car looks.
