That's the first motor-racing I've watched in full since the V8s and F1 moved behind a paywall in...I wanna say 2014 was it ?

I tried watching a couple of the 12 hour races but just felt my heart wasn't in it.

Hopefully the TCR fields will expand, the young players will get better and this series will grow and remain on free to air.

From what I saw it was a decent debut for a brand new series, and has potential.

I think V8 rwd Supercars make for a better spectacle, and perhaps the BTCC rules with rwd cars would be preferable, but BMW being the last rwd hold-out are soon going to solve that issue with the next 1-series being fwd.

Maybe I'm on my own, but I really don't get the "it's not rear wheel drive" argument.

I understand if you were driving the car you may feel the difference.

Looking on from the outside: they are still tail happy; they still lift wheels; they still four wheel drift through corners. Not sure how the drive type changes the spectacle?

The burnout after the race comes to mind

Fair enough, I understand people like those.

Never really spun my wheels (pun intended) seemed like a waste of good rubber when it could be used for going fast forward.

The only place to see over-steering touring cars are front drive cars these days.

The streaming numbers have to tell you that streaming, whether it be free, YouTube or by a paid subscription, is absolutely the way of the future.

Even a free Facebook livestream, that people can follow, comment on and share is the way to get fans to follow and promote sponsors.

I have watched all 3 races now.

Racing probably as good as or better than any in the world. Funny considering most of the drivers are second tier or retired.

The cars looked and sounded good and there was genuine racing and strategic passing which seems to be missing elsewhere.

Obviously some did well just to circulate, learning as they went.

How was Heimgartner picking the thing up by its skirt and flying. I think we saw his raw ability and given that the Subi isn't well developed and his car had lots of stuff not working, his performance was remarkable. I would say out of everybody, Andre and Will Brown have really enhanced their careers. Marketable and capable.

The race 1 penalty for Morcom was questionable to me. Looked Like Almond didn't take due care to me.

A thoroughly entertaining weekends racing but clearly some reliability issues and slightly derpy production.

Great insights above.

Having never driven a FWD in anger, would there be any transfer of skills learnt in TCR to Supercars? Or is TCR better suited to "gentleman"/retired drivers in this regard?

Seems to suit anyone with a strong open-wheeler or GT background. The cars have a decent amount of aero.

What is your take on Morcom vs Martin in race 3?

I know it was penalised but I think the movement that caused the off was Martin's, but it is the job of the driver behind to get past safely. For me it was 50/50. Both contributed so for me no penalty?

Yeah, 50/50. One was out of control, and the other was in a hurry.

Not sure why the Honda couldn't continue. It barely nudged the wall.

I was there for the opening round and enjoyed what I saw.

I'd only be nitpicking personal preferences to find any faults with it. It was good racing and I really hope it stays with the Shannons program rather than become just another Supercars support race. Racing on alternate weekends to Supercars is much better than everything on the one weekend

Roll on round 2, just a shame i'll be watching this one on TV!

Teams will therefore have only the 20 minutes, at which time cars must be parked at 45 degrees on the pit apron, to effect any repairs between races.

Refuelling is not permitted but tank capacity covers the two races, and any other work is allowed.

... yet hanging over the balcony as cars came back to the garages after R2, I heard the car controller for the KR Subarus call for Heimgartner's car to be rolled into the garage for refuelling, then once rolled back out Molly's was also. Being on the roof I didn't see what happened downstairs ovbviously, but didn't seem like rules were followed.
Just on this; the Subarus have a dispensation to be able to refuel between races 2 and 3, due to insufficient fuel tank capacity.
