Where did this title spring from? Is the USA once again being considered as 'The World'?

Great news for both the fans and the category.

Earnhardt is undoubtedly the most well-known driver in America, and to have him racing here will give the series a lot of exposure in the USA. Considering also that most NASCAR drivers dont race anything apart from NASCAR, I hope it's a big thing for them.

Wonder how he'll go turning left AND right .

What, apart from Sprintcars, and Midgets (especially at the Chili Bowl)

Probable quite well, considering NASCAR'S race on road courses at Mexico, Montreal, Sears Point, and Watkins Glen.....

Plus of course Earnhardt's experiences racing the factory backed ALMS Chevvy Corvettes.

Wont happen. His multi-mill $ US contract (same as any F1 driver) wont allow it.

On the road he is not in the same class as Montoya or Ambrose if your saw Sears Point NASCAR last weekend... Should generate some interest though, hope it happens...

???

As it is after his final races in Nationwide and Sprint cup why won't they allow him??? Nascar drivers, unlike any f1 driver have alot more freedom to race in other series for different sponsors...

nafe! should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Some interesting opinions in this thread, despite not following nascar i have to admit the drivers have tremendous skill, i have no doubt he will adapt well to driving the V8Supercar as it wouldnt be too unlike a big heavy nascar on a road course.

The thing im wondering about is what he will think about australian tracks when he has to spend a w/e at oran park.

I was there today and after being at some big events and even just comparing it to eastern creek boy is that place in disrepair. Rusted/Bent fences, grass knee high around the place sponsorship signs falling apart and paint flaking off.

Least he should enjoy the track layout!

Junior may have an opinion or two about the standards of cars, organisation, racetracks and other facilities, but being a Southern Gent, I’m sure he’ll keep it nice.

I hope we’re not seeing a return of the old Aussie cultural inferiority complex where we need the reassurance of “The World’s most popular driver” to make us feel all warm and fuzzy.

Huge coup for the Series if it happens. He is without doubt one of the most famous race car drivers in teh world (and yes America is not 'the world'), but the pure amount of money he earns in and out of the sport make him one of the world's biggest motorsport drivers.

Can't wait to see if it happens.

Wasnt there a rule, in the deep dark ages when the Kelvinmonster was in residence, that a Fujitsu series race car had to come from a half dozen races in the main game before it was so blessed that it could run in the second tier series.

And given the apparent intention to build up 'Gidget' to working condition for Mr Earnhardt to drive, or Mr Owen, depending on testing... and that this chassis allegedly did not appear in any main game races, will there be an eligibility cloud over that vehicle for use in the development series?

It would be Gidget's race debut would it not?

Loadsman expects to have Gidget ready to run by Winton, but no driver is yet decided for that event. Expect Matt Neal or Boris Said to drive it at Bathurst, assuming the car is allowed entry.

GTR, Matthew White built up a BA for use in the Fujitsu series it had never raced in the main game, I dont see why there would be an issue with the Gidget chassis being eligible or not.

Mr White allegedly asked the Kelvinmonster for permission to build up the car as he had already sourced the parts and shell to do so before the rule came in...

There was one other that was built using the same grandfather clause... (car escapes me.. old age..)

"Gidget" would likely need a new permission to run if the old rule was still in force.

Didn't David Clark have a "new" BA built for him at one stage, for use in the Fujitsu series? That would have been after the rule was brought in, wasn't it?

Yep, built to the same spec as the car written off.

Whilst Earnhardt might not be coming, the second Tint-A-Car vehicle will still be coming.
