Terry S should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
FIA 2018 Driver Rankings

These have just been released:

https://www.speedcafe.com/2017/12/15...iver-rankings/

Must be over 100 drivers on list.

Such listings will always cause controversy as no matter how hard they try always an element of subjectivity sneaks in.

Personally I am surprised Fabian Coulthard not on list.

Also no James Courtney?

And who is Gold class driver Caitlin Wood?

Will Power doesnt race in a series where he needs to be ranked and thus has no need to be ranked

FIA categorisation is only relevant for categories that use a driver categorisation series, like GT3 or WEC.

You actually apply for the ranking so that you can compete in those categories

Surprised Ms Wood holds a gold ranking.

However as per everyone else, it only matters when you do/don't need it.

Surprised to see Mr Bright as a Platinum.
Last time he was in a GT car, he wrote it off didn’t he?

It's probably more of a hindrance being Gold as well as can really limits driving opportunities.

You're far more employable if you can be graded as a silver

She may not want to relinquish it, if it is required to compete in the Le Mans 24hr, which has been firmly on her radar in recent times.

you needed to be Gold to race in FIA Gt World cup. Thus Chaz was racing

You've got far more chance of a drive in the Le Mans 24hr if you have a Silver or Bronze driver ranking than you do if you are Gold, especially in the P2 and GTE-Am classes that Wood would most likely compete in.

Two years old but a very applicable article on how Silver is a handy ranking to have here;
http://www.dailysportscar.com/2015/1...ut-silver.html

Her best chance of racing at Le Mans as is one of her stated aims, is if she is ranked as a Silver.

But if she was silver she would not have been racing in the Blancpain GT series in 2017. two edged sword, she had to win in 2016 to get her 2017 drive.

Lets hope she has a 12 hour drive

Silver ratings should be for fast drivers who obviously have a regular job outside racing.

Not necessarily, you could apply as a Silver and they would review it case by case, but being Gold makes the entry easier.

It should be used as it is imo, up and coming drivers passing through the ranks as being silver opens more doors for them to compete. Once they prove themselves quick enough then the gold should be next.

It's obviously dependant on the series and the drivers goals, but being a Silver certainly opens more opportunities overall and if you're good it can help a team gain an advantage (Laurent in WEC for example).
