Fisi didn’t do very well in the Ferrari either, and he’d finished on the podium in a FI a few races before.

Always thought that Chris Amon had a rough record:

"Phil Hill led 172 laps in a career which saw him win three Grands Prix and the 1961 World Championship. Chris Amon led 183 laps in his career…and never won a single race.
In 1968 alone he retired from three races with whilst in a position to win, the poor reliability of his Ferrari meaning he ended the year only 10th in the championship when he was arguably the best driver of the year.
Four more times he led races, but something always seemed to conspire against him being there when the flag fell, leaving him saddled with the horrible reputation of being the best F1 driver to never win a race."

Comparisons are complicated by the facts that -

-until 2003 only top 6 got points (or top 5 in 50s )
- now top 10 do
- cars don't break now. Less chance of finding yourself with a point , even though you only need to plod round and end up 10th
- but far more Grands Prix now
- old days you'd get a point for FL

My nomination for the driver who looked more out of his depth than any I have seen in an F1 car was Richard Robarts (sic) . He rose without trace to get a Brabham/ Williams drive in 1974 - best finish 15th in Brabham and a DNS in Williams . Bless him , he then rightly returned to the obscurity from which he had emerged

Badoer was actually 38 in 2009. The problem was he got little, if any running in the car that season, as that was when in season testing was first banned. So we can't judge him on that two race stint

In fact that man was Piercarlo Ghinzani. Raced from 1981 to 1989 had more than 100 starts and never scored a single point.

Only if you exclude 1984 when he got 2 points for finishing 5th somewhere (San Marino?) - LOL.

Wiki says Dallas in 1984. That was a bit of a lottery, but he did score some points. He also had a couple of 7ths that year (and another in 1987).

There used to be a great website called F1 rejects. It seemed to disappear a while ago. Someone has restored it here:

https://web.archive.org/web/20041204...m:80/main.html

This will tell you all you need to know about the drivers who battled at the less glamorous end of the grid.

It was when Tyrrell was DQ'ed and excluded temporarily from F1 later in the season.
But well, he did score at Dallas anyways. And could also score at Monza if it weren't Berger and Gartner finished before him,
despite both drivers can't score due to regulations at the time.
