Gary Critcher should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
whatever happened to John Brindley ??

seeing John Brindley's name pop up over in the Oulton Park winners thread has got me wondering what happened to him. He used to partner John Foulston and also (I think) race some historic F1 cars in the mid-1980's. What happened to him after Foulston's fatal accident, did he just give up racing??

Didnt he race a Sports 2000 in the late 70's early 80's?
I'm sure he did...I seem to remember he had one of those odd looking bubble visors on his helmet

He raced our Chevy malibu in classic touring cars in mid 90's and is busy with his buisness in the rag trade living in Northants

Mr Brindley was a staple of British national racing in the 70s/80s. I remember him in a Mazda RX3, one of the few who got close to Jock Robertson in 1975. (Now there's a name, where did he go to ??. Brindley was later very good in S2000, Thundersports, Historic F1s, and so on. Later did Historics I think, a Lotus 23 or siimlar amongst others?

John probably won’t thank me for this quote, but it was quite a good remark!

It would have been the mid to late 80’s at Brands Hatch. John was in a very quick F1 and I was in a not nearly so quick much older F2.

John is an extremely able driver and as I was coming to the end of the pit straight I saw him coming onto it. I had no one else behind me and concluded that at least I would be round Druids before he would pass me. I braked for Druids, turned the wheel and at the same moment John went through on the inside. Yup, I had company in my trousers for the remainder of the race (a Frank Gardner line).

I saw John afterwards and said how impressed I was at his speed (left out the not seeing him bit). Have you not driven an F1? He asked as though it was a very natural thing for everyone to do. ‘No’ I replied. ‘Oh you must’, he said, ‘its better than the best sex you have ever had’.

Still a virgin.
