Technically doesn't this become the longest event for the drivers now though? Now ALL of them have to do 600km of racing by themselves, not with the aid of a co-driver.

Not necessarily because at Bathurst one driver can do 2/3 of the race which translates to 107 laps or 665km.

Legends to boost SuperGP event
October 18, 2009 - 4:26PM

An Australian Legends race has been added to the SuperGP roster in the wake of the A1GP withdrawal which had threatened to spoil the motorsport event on the Gold Coast.

Racing identities Dick Johnson, Kevin Bartlett, Jim Richards, Glenn Seton, Colin Bond and Bob Morris will hit the track next weekend in the Legends category in former championship and Bathurst-winning cars.

Prized race cars, valued in excess of $1 million each, will be on show and include Peter Brock's A9X Torana, Allan Moffat's Mustang and Norm Beeche's Monaro.

V8 Supercars boss Tony Cochrane said the inclusion of the Legends category at the SuperGP was a fitting way to celebrate the history of Australian motorsport.

"The Gold Coast event is a tremendous part of our series and we are ready to continue as its headline act," Cochrane said.

"The Gold Coast event has enormous history of its own and to add the Australian Legends category which involves many V8 Supercar Hall of Fame members and their cars is really an added bonus for young and old fans alike."

Sports Minister Phil Reeves, who stepped in following the A1GP withdrawal yesterday, said it was time to move on.

"We need to put the A1GP situation behind us, re-group and put on the best show possible for the fans and television viewers," he said.

Yeah, where is the confirmation? At first, I thought the GC track had a track density of only 28...but it is still 32, isn't it?

hmm, interesting to see that rules can be changed at the last minute allowing two extra races to be added to the championship (forced by circumstance or not)....

...yet two months out from Sydney they couldn't work something out to accomodate an entry for Marcos Ambrose.......

also won't this "Part A & B" for the races confuse the public, i thought each race had a podium in 2009

With a driver entry list published with 29 competitors one would think you should not listen to gossip!

There's a final reg up on the V8 website that is a revised schedule only. I'd take it then that each race is in two 150km parts. Each race counts for the same number of points that the original races were going to count for - its just that now each race is split into two parts and the total distance is higher.

I reckon that there'll possibly be another update with revised tyre allocation.

Perhaps like the old sprint format?

You start Part B where you finished Part A and get points for both???

Has further supp regs been issued detailing the format and sporting changes yet?

How the points will work, how Race 2 relates to Race 1, and Race 4 relates to Race 3?

As of last night, no. There is a "final" reg up on the V8 website that is simply a revised meeting program. By the look of it, the races on each day are defined as part a & part b of the one race so points may well stay as originally listed as by this method there is only 1 race each day.

I'd assume that you'd start part B where you finished part A.

Posted this up last night but the post seems to have disappeared.

Probably be another reg spelling it all out in more detail in the next day or so I would think.
