He completely changed the approach to F1 safety. He could tell a good story too.
A sad day. |

As I said, that was a gread loss. Prof Watkins cared so much about F1 drivers, and safety measures were better thanks mainly to him. RIP.

What a man.
Rest in peace Mr Watkins. I noticed when they interviewed him during the British Grand Prix how much he seemed to have aged. He always looked quite sprightly for his age when he was in F1. Maybe you never should retire. |

I dont think there really has been a more important man involved in F1 these past decades. A gentleman and a true legend.

I grew up in an era of relative safety in F1 and from what I have read the prof is one of the major reasons why. completely unassuming and totally focused on making the lives of drivers safer.
people like that don't come around very often. RIP |

Hadn't heard this news, but agree with all sentiments above - the man did so much good work for the sport. RIP.

Really tragic news, but lets not forget he was an old man, it shouldn't be completely unexpected - that isn't to detract from how very sad this news is, though. A remarkable human being, a huge loss for motorsport. I hope all the motoring and racing publications will give him a large tribute.
