Hi I'm a newbie here as you can see from my first post.
Looks like a bunch of good conversation in the F1 and GT areas, so I thought I would stick my head in. I'm a huge F1 fan, spent a nice weekend at Indy this Sept and will be back in 2001. I have been getting more and more in to GT racing in the last couple years and have often wondered why I don't see the CLK and GT-one compete any longer. What's the story from some of you folks that have been long time fans. I also want to pick up a good Le Mans video from 97' and 98', suggestions??? Thanks. |

hello and welcome to ten tenths camel jockey (nice nick by the way )
we always welcome new blood to the sportscar forum and you are welcome to drop in anytime. from what i can gather about the CLK is that after their dissasterous le man effort in 98 when they had 3 cars completly blow over on them Mercedes decided to stop their sportscar program and concentrate on both F1 and the new DTM series in Germany..A shame i know but it was probably one of the biggest kick in the pants for Mercedes for quite some time and left them feeling rather embarrased. GT1 on theother hand..i dont know much of what went on there but I do believe the class simply out priced itself..and while the cars were fantastic to watch there just wasnt enough teams that could afford to run one..there must be a few sitting in garages around the world just waiting and wanting to be unleashed on a race track somewhere. as for video's ..im not sure on that one you could pssibly try duke vide as they have wide range of tapes that are excellent viewing. CHEERS Marcus. |

marcus is right with the CLR (the final iteration after the CLK-GTR and CLK-LM).
But I think camel jockey meant the Toyota GT-One. Basically it is similar reasoning to part of why Merc pulled out. To concentrate on F1. Toyota Team Europe, who ran both the GT-One and Corolla WRC, is currently concentrating on F1 only. They may return to either class at a later date but no one knows yet. |

Thanks
Cool, thanks for the info guys.
I guess I'll just have to buy some 97' & 98' vids so see those cars run. Yes I did mean the Toyota GT-one by the way. When does the new season kick off? |

Thanks KC,
now I just need to get Speedvision back so I can watch it. I know they show American Le Mans on speedvision, do they play the FIA GT Series? |

You might catch the odd FIA GT race on Motorsports Mundial, but I don't think they carry it as a regular series.

Camel Jockey:
Forget the videos, save up the money and buy yourself a real Porsche GT1 EVO, (I did ) Check out the cars for sale in 10 tenths. You might find a few surprises,......no rust, no a/c, full engine rebuild, 1 owner, +700Nm torque, real head-turner.....! |
