Drivers and Teams
I don't understand why drivers these days would lash out at teams in public.
it is not like there ar a lot of them... once cut from a teams list of possible (due to attidude) I imagine that it would be very hard to get back on the list. David  |

I agree, sometimes it's better to keep your mouth shut and play the game. I'd rather be a known as a good team player than a whiner. Better for your future.
But in a pressure cooker like F1, that isn't always easy, I suppose... |

Yeah, and it's not only in F1. Take Nelson Phillipe's Champ Car example.
He's a disoriented 17 year old boy who quitted the team because according to him the car was uncompetitive. He ruined his racing career before it had hardly begun. |

From a career standpoint it's better to keep your mouth shut. I think that's why DC has a seat and JV doesn't. Sponsors pay for being associated with an image. If the image is of some whiny twit fighting with the team then the sponsor doesn't get what they wanted. There are some exceptions to this rule, but I don't think any in current F1.

That's mainly because some drivers have yet to learn the concept of "team-work". It is NOT the driver who wins races or car/engine who lose it for him; they're in together for the job. If some idiot claims laurels for a win and lashes out at the team when he doesn't, he won't be winning anything, even if he might have a seat.

On the other hand, it happens frequently that team bosses do the same towards drivers, and it explains many things.

Sure. Another bad idea if you ask me. Of course this works (or shall I say, doesn't work) both ways. Want to spank your driver little buttocks? Go ahead, kick him hard, but keep it in private, not in front of the camera. Is bad for team morale.

It happens in almost every team sport.
That's when a team it's not playing as a team. |

I think the teams can "spank" their drivers in public because there are talented drivers out there without rides, they don't realy have to worry about filling their seats.

Actually they can do whatever they want; they pay the bills. (unless the driver pays for his seat, in that case no they don't). But it's not wise.
