Webber managed to beat Heidfeld despite the same penalty, and I'm amazed that they didn't discover the engine problem after the qualifying laps, if it was already affecting his car's performance - that's what the telemetry is there for. And just to reclarify Malaysia, Mark passed him at the previous corner but was slightly compromised on exit - Giancarlo tried to fight back and retake the position (not that I dislke him for having a go, it was a racing accident). While he did everything required of him in Australia, he got to the front through dumb luck (a direct result of his failure to match Massa in Brazil last year, ironically), with the other fast guys down the grid.

Just to reclarify Malaysia. No broken wing flap for Fisi, no Mark Webber anywhere near Fisi.

I'm willing to bet Villeneuve lasts the full term of his contract at Sauber. With the exception of Nicola Larini and Karl Wendlinger, Peter Sauber does not have a history of sacking drivers.

Karl Wendlinger wasn't sacked - he stood down due to a lack of recovery from injury.
Nicola Larini wasn't sacked - he chose to leave the team. |

I'm not sure when it became detached. But they are assuming it was after his car started having massive understeer. As for Bahrain, the whole circuit is surrounded by sand, so going out early is a pretty bad penalty.
In any case, I stand by conviction that Alonso has been better than him, but he has had Rubens-like luck, and we can hardly characterize his performance as "stinking" |
