Dan Wheldon on pole, again!
Wheldon set the pole position time once again at Motegi, in a Honda dominated qual session.
link to IRL website: http://www.indyracing.com/indycar/grid/ Very surprising Greg Ray's return to first row as well as Matsuura unexpectedly 4th. Noticeable Taylor best of Chevy-powered qualifiers. |

Nice to see Dixon bounce back from his injury to qualify on the third row.
Also, good to see Takagi was cleared to drive (even though he put in a pretty dismal qualifying run). |

Alright Dan!
Awesome performance by Greg Ray. Matsuura has also done very well. Great to see Scott and Tora are fine and ready to race. |

It's a little disappointing to see Adrian so far back! He's a two-time winner, he should really know this place! I guess it's the race that counts though.

In the final practice session, with race setups, the order has significantly changed, we still can expect everything.

You can't even attribute Matsuura's pace to local knowledge, ebcause he hasn't driven the track before. An excellent display, especially considering how far back Adrian is
Great to see Dan showing the way, Honda really seem dominant but he's beaten some very good drivers again, including Tony. I can really see him challenging for the title this year. Barron's been put to the back after an engine change, but he was pretty slow anyway, as was Carpenter. Takagi's probably not 100% fit, but I can understand his desperation to race at home. Rahal did pretty well, with Meira instantly on the pace and Roger solid in midfield. |

He'll have plenty of time to get acclimated to these cars, how they respond to set-ups, etc., during the open test at Indy April 27 & 28, and during the month of May.... Give him a little time...he'll get there...he's too good to stay behind for long....but it is a rather steep learning curve for him right now... |

Good to see Greg Ray up there. Hopefully he won't start to fade back at the beginning of the race...

Definetly some surprises here!
Greg Ray, for sure. Good to see a little guy can still compete here. What happened to Helio? He's got some work to do. Scott Sharp fell back, darn, but I've got faith! Should Tora be racing? His speed was way off. Are Takagi, Hornish, Scheckter, and Dixon, all using there back-up cars? Could explain their problems. Lets go racing! |

Man, my boy(Tomas) tanked in quals
GP, T. did have a wreck in practice yesterday (or was it the day before...I get a little thrown off when they're on the other side of the world ) and had to use the back-up later on. However, I don't know if he qualified in it or not. Dixon prbably did, too, because he wrecked HARD in practice...and suffered a hairline fracture to his ankle (that poor kid...maybe he ought to stay away from Motegi! ) |

To GP Racer:
The way I understood it, Takagi and Dixon were in back-ups for sure, as was Hornish....not sure about Tomas... Helio was 4th in the final practice session today, wasn't he??? And Sam was 2nd??? That final session included four of my five picks, with only Herta on the oustide looking in.... Hope it can run that way when I tune in on "The Deuce" tonight!!! |

No Tim, its kind of grim for Helio, who qualified 15th, and Sam qualed 7th.
But when you look at the speeds, Helio is only alittle more than 2 MPH slower, which is pretty incredible considering he's 15th. He'll have to work hard to get through the traffic. Really, only Takagi was way, way, off the pace. |

I'm trying my best but I dunno if I can stay up and watch the entire race.
1/2 hour to go until it comes on....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (I'm not really "embarrassed" but that's the closest thing we have to what looks like a "sleepy face" around here) Last edited by MLM; 17 Apr 2004 at 03:04. |

I almost went to bed after Tomas dropped out but there were only 15-16 laps to go and I wanted to see if Wheldon or Tony could pull off the win. I'll take a nap later on. (sleepy head, hehe ) |

I'll go back to the IRL site to confirm it, but in that "Final Practice" session, I do believe that Sam and Helio were 2nd and 4th quickest with their race set-ups.... Sorry for not making myself more clear in the post that prompted your response... |
