Oulton Park Gold Cup

Just a very quick thank you, both personally and on behalf of the HSCC to everyone who came to Oulton Park over the weekend and made the Gold Cup meeting such a success.
The smooth running of the meeting reflected the hard work and co-operation of everyone and it's much appreciated.
I hope to see you all again soon

Oulton Gold Cup Meeting

Hi John,
Simply....It was a Pleasure !!!

The racing was fantastic, it was 'real' racing.

A pleasurable three day meeting...

only down side was that damned helicopter landing 35 to 40 ft away from us marshals on Cascades, during a race, with the down blast from the rotors causing havoc with the flaggies and the noise causing useless communications in the 'box' . What CAA rules were broken there I wonder...?

But apart from that it was Brill :-))

It was a pleasure being there once again this year, but this time as a marshal rather than a spectator. I'll certainly be returning next year and hope it goes from strength to strength.

I have a few photos from the event online at http://pictures.hepatic.no-ip.org/gallery/goldcup2004

I too would just like to thank John and all at the HSCC for putting on an absolutely brilliant weekend.

It was great to see all the old cars, GP cars road saloons, Formula ford etc out racing with full grids on the international circuit.

Thanks again, I'm already looking forward to next years Gold Cup meeting.

A great meeting! Where did all those Chevrons come from?

It's great to see real racing cars being driven as their makers intended - Lotus Cortinas on three wheels.....

......and the noise!

The only disappointment was Stirling Moss not being able to make it - I've waited the best part of 50 years to see Moss in a 250F! Hope I don't have to wait another 50.....

Most amusing moment of the weekend was the look on the face of the Tojeiro Bristol driver who pulled off at Foulstons complaining of lack of oil pressure when I pointed to the black line all the way from Island to Shell & said: 'There's your oil'!

I've got a (very) few photos at:

http://www.marshalspost.com/gallery/188.html

(Memo to self: next year, don't forget the camera on the Monday!)

Hi John -
Thanks for your appreciation to the marshals, only sorry that I couldn't get to all the days due to work commitments.

For a Historics fan (ok, it shows my age, but I remember many of these cars and saw Moss, Brabham etc in their prime and was delighted to get both their autographs at last year's Gold Cup meeting) it's the greatest meeting of the season at Oulton. The drivers love the circuit, and the friendly atmosphere and camaraderie round the paddock is just wonderful. If you weren't there this weekend, put it in your diary NOW for 2005 - it's a cracking meeting.

(For those who don't know JGS, it's worth mentioning that he does understand what we do, being a former marshal including doing Chief Pits at Brands when I first started). He also clerks 750MC, a firm favourite event at Oulton and elsewhere - come along and support both - it's great racing!
