Oulton Park F3 GT - 11th & 13th April 09

Hi,

Does anyone know when the tickets will be sent out for this?
Will it be W/C the 30th March or W/C the 6th April?

May sound like an odd question but it does have some importance to me.

Tickets for the vast majority of meetings go out around the beginning of the week in which the event takes place, so I reckon you're likely to receive them around the Monday or Tuesday before Easter if normal practice is followed. Unless it isn't in which case they'll be either earlier or later... Hope that's at least vaguely useful!

Thanks for that.

I am used to receiving tickets on the Tuesday or Wednesday before the meeting, but sometimes the BTCC and F3/GT ones are earlier, and I am hoping they arrive before 3rd or I have to drive past Oulton with the caravan to go home and pick them up.

spoke to margaret simpson the other day, she said that she has had a lot of demand from marshals for this one and may be short on tickets again. just have to look on the positive side of things in that we have good numbers on the bank.

I wonder why that might be - some little incident that happened last year perhaps

I believe Margaret was going to start writing envelopes this week!

Are you doing 2 at Oulton and 1 at Loton, or vice versa?

Just waiting to see if I'm required (by new girlfriend) elsewhere that day.

No! I would like Druids for a quiet (Ha!) change. No fireballs this year eh?

But it was the team on that side of Cascades that got it first! I'd play safe and go to Hill Top.

Shouldn't you just find out where Dave Brand will be and make sure you're somewhere else if you want a quiet day?

Yeah, well, probably. I suppose you'll find me standing in the middle of the rally stages scaring birds or small children or some such!

Nah! I'm looking forward to my "first" day at O/P this year, F3/GT weekend again. Last time that happened I got an award!

Got my tickets today as well. As a first timer at Oulton Park (see my earlier thread here) I'm just trying to tie up the instructions for getting to the flags sign on with what I can see on Google Maps. Once signed on do we proceed back to the Lodge crossing to go on circuit and park up somewhere? Do we drive to post after breakfast and park nearby our post or what?

Looking forward to the meeting although disappointed that I'm only doing the Monday.

depends on post. most are accessible via the track and you can park close to post but a few you need to park elsewhere and walk to (shell/island). sign on is a little different to normal, by the look of it they are expecting a congested paddock so are trying to get people to go elsewhere wherever possible. damn fine idea it is too, paddock can be a nightmare on the big events.

best thing to do is ask at sign on, but yes you would go back thru lodge gate, on to track then drive to your post from there, taking in the lovely scenery as it starts to snow (remember last year anyone?!!!)

For flag sign on, park on the pit straight. To the left, more or less opposite race control, you'll see the cabin where you're signing on; don't worry, there'll be plenty of folks in orange around!

For information on where to park for each post, see:

I got the impression that we were not allowed to park on the track for this event! The F3 people have, in recent times had a bit of a moan that we are allowed to park on the track.

They'll moan even more if it is wet and we all bring mud and grit onto the circuit from driving on the roads to get to the Lodge crossing!

The exact wording in the finals is:

"Incident Marshals will sign on in Chequers. Please park near Chequers (outside the paddock). Once you have signed on please proceed onto the circuit via the Lodge crossing gate so as to avoid the paddock area.
All other marshals & officials will sign on in the log cabin on the outside of the circuit opposite race control. Please enter the circuit by the main gate and then turn left to cross the track at lodge corner."

After talking to Margaret over the weekend & re-reading the above, it seems that the intention is that non-incident will cross the track at Lodge, drive round to the log cabin, sign on & then drive back to park on the circuit. I'm not sure just how easy it is to get to the log cabin from pit straight - it will probably involve climbing Armco, squeezing through gaps in fencing, etc; as most flaggies & observers are well stricken in years or somewhat on the portly side (both, in many cases!) driving round may be the better option!

Yes, opening East Gate (or even Lodge Gate) would have been a good idea. . .

Maybe the reason we've got to be on post 45 minutes before the start of the first session is to give the incident team at Lodge time to clear all the much off the track!
