apriliadriver should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
MSA Licence Data

On taking the MSA Medical last Saturday, I was intrigued to see that for the first time, the MSA wanted data about the height and weight of drivers...

Now when I became a management chimp, one million years ago, I was told that the rule for data was : never ask for data unless you know the decision you are going to take with it.

So what decisions are the MSA planning ?

For example - if they use it to calculate BMI, do we imagine that there will be standard ranges of BMI for certain types of car - 25 or over if you race a big V8, 16 or under to qualify for a Cooper 500 or Morgan 3-wheeler ? Lotus Cortina drivers must be over BMI 22, Alfa GTA drivers can be 18 or less...

What about grid positions decided on a multiplication of the age of the car and the BMI number ? This would be the Classic Flab Formula.

Or could it be 'nice-to-know' data, leading to statistics such as "If all the holders of International Historic Licences were laid end-to-end, they would stretch from Charing Cross to Piccadilly"? Or, "The total weight of drivers this year is up from 158 tonnes to 165 tonnes of whom 200 licence-holders accounted for 7% of the total" ? Name them, name them !

Anyway, just posed in the spirit of enquiry ...

The information will be forwarded to incident marshals to allow them to decide whether or not to ask a particular driver to get out the car before they start pushing.

Seems like a duplication to me.

All they will have to do next year is ask the government for the information via your NHS records.

Maybe they are just verifying the results?

Or perhaps there is a Handicapping system coming in?

Or maybe you will have to be within specific, period correct, weight and height limits for the class in which you entered?

Nick, it is probably required for handicapping at the Birkett next year.

It's for F1 use next year, double points if you get a podium and your BMI is greater than 26 and there's an R in the month.

Actually seats are being designed with weight limits thus they can check your weight against the seat and either allow you to race or not.
