I'd have thought that given all modernity, a bit of salt would be no problem.

My Subaru Legacy has done 157k, virtually goodwood eligible in age, gets used in all weathers and is totally rust free.

Joe , a 60 year old car with no protection for salt and stuff which will probably take two days to clean properly and effect paint.
Do I need the expense of that for the gang to finish about twelfth in a 45 minute race st Goodwood?
I think not and with dosh saved can pay your motorhome pass at LMC!

On the ITV4 coverage they said that the track had been cleared using uric acid, which they also said was the same stuff used for defrosting aeroplane runways. (Yes, it's still an acid, but maybe not as severe as salt?)

We have tested cars on tracks that have been salted . Awful what it does to the magnesium . Defrnatley no .

Mmm, bit of research brings up urea being used on runways in the past, but apparently now not environmentally friendly. Seems still available, so maybe something like this is what they used.....

I wasn't referring to old cars! As for salt, been there done that at Aintree in 2004, everything went rusty . . . And no magnesium on my cortina.

still working on a visa for July, and gigs piling up as well. motorhome long gone, if I make it, it'll be in a Cortina or on a Lambretta.

Sad to see Lynns Cortina totalled, when it first appeared, 2010/11 I recall being a little frustrated, it was beautifully prepared and had nearly all the correct detail. With an Australian wife, we know about these things. At the time we had a very nice spare white 2 door super on the drive, I wanted to build a GT500 replica. Then a Bob Jane Lowtit appeared. Hey ho. What made me feel better was a 'Goodwood specialist' said 'what are those air scoops for, they look stupid, not period correct' Glad I didn't waste my time.

A major kart track in the UK used that de-icer, it played havoc with brakes, frames and ignition systems. They promised never to use it again after the row it caused. I wasn't surprised to see such small grids.

I’m assuming airports will be subject to legislation covering what can and can’t be used, maybe we need the same for circuits!

The Channel 4 coverage not only told us that uric acid was used but that a lot of hard work went into clearing it up before the racing. Maybe they knew what they were doing?

But the decision to race or not rests with the bill payer no matter what assurances are issued.

Our boys checked on state of single seaters when they completed their race.
At that point it was obvious that the stuff used on the track was effecting
Cars surfaces.
A decision not to race was not taken easily and I am at Bay Hill 4000 miles away,so the gang thought the best idea was to protect the car which will now be kept for Pre63 at Donington and probably Silverstone.
IThey were aware that I would have got very liverish if they had raced the car and then spent a week putting it back into pristine condition.
I need the Alta to be ready for both Flying Scotsmsn and Donington.
A Pre War car now that is important!

I'm sure the implications of putting anything onto the track surface would have been taken seriously, but I would think only aviation quality / spec treatment would give a minimal risk of harm. Even then, some would be nervous, and rightly so. Plus we don't know exactly what was used.....

Ah, done a swap then! Clever.....

In an idle moment I googled 'uric acid'. Appears only in results as a chemical produced in the human bod, usually passes through, but that can cause gout.......

I was not there, had not entered a car, had no interest in anything except watching the action on screen. I was only passing on information second hand.

I plead not guilty to any accusation of causing precious historic cars to rot due to chemical reaction caused by treatment applied to the surface of the track.

I rest my case.

Not sure if this helps, but:

Page 12 of the latest HTP paper format includes section 4.1 - Brakes. It is subdivided into individual points - these range from a to j - but there is no k.

My only assumption is that there was some form of discrepancy between the brakes on a car and its papers. But I'm sure that someone else on here can enlighten us more.

But as Mike says, it would help if the context was known

I have heard from a paddock person that a "brightly coloured" Capri was excluded for non-conforming brakes.

I rarely quibble with Goodwood grids because they are so good but the Hawthorne Trophy was pretty odd. I couldn't work out the rationale at all. If it was for mid-50s Formula Libre and Grand Prix cars what was a pre-war Riley ERA and a 1960 Ferrari Dino doing in it? Was it mean to be cars associated with Hawthorne and if so, what was the relevance of the Kurtis? All lovely cars on their own but it seemed a bit of a cobbled together grid.

It was becoming difficult to fill some grids so you had unusual mixes in some grids.
They did well from that point of view
