Nic Fairman
Motorsport is dangerous. We all know that; none more so than you guys who sit behind the wheel and entertain us on the track. However we get used to this danger; even the occasional death seems to pass by almost un-noticed - 'they knew the dangers' has been heard said.
However, once it's someone you knew that's on the receiving end it gives you a bit of a wakeup call. For a number of years my father and I were involved with karting, indeed my father still is. During this time it was our pleasure to meet a large number of genuinely nice people. People like Nic and Simon Fairman. It is with great sadness that I ask you to visit a topic which I have just posted in the national racing forum in which we mark the passing of Nic, killed last weekend whilst competing at Mallory Park. I'm not sure if anyone else here was lucky enough to have know Nic, but nethertheless, I invite you to pop by and leave some comments on that topic. These will, when the time is right, be passed to Nic's parents and brother. Thanks guys. http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...threadid=10833 |

After so many years in Australia without any deahs or any injuries we have found this year to be excruciating.
Starting with the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix, where I was in the same officials team on the same corner as Mr Graham Beveridge. Then there was the drag racing guy that hit the wall at the end of the strip and he passed away, there have been more major incidents in Australia this year than we care to remember. At a State Round 2 weeks ago, two drivers had to be flown to Melbourne Hospitals due to spinal injuries. We are finally seeing the result of the advanced performance of the machines at State and non-professional levels. This is not only endangering drivers, but officials as well, as these cars travel at such great speeds, it is often hard to get out of the way in time. This is the year of the volunteer, yet we seem to be losing more of them than ever. What can we do to stop this trend? |
