Rossi took a while to take the lead, but when he did he blew the opposition away yet again. However, all was not rosy for the Italian when he collided with Roberts Suzuki on lap 3.

Katoh drove an outstanding race, really taking it to the new four-stroke machines on his NSR. Capirossi and Barros were also their usual outstanding best.

Rider of the race: Daijiro Katoh

Fonsi Nieto finally delivered a grand prix victory. What made it more emotional is the fact he won from pole position, in his 50th GP at his home race. Rolfo looked set to take a first-time win as well, but nothing could stop Nieto.

In a special mention, Australia Casey Stoner in only his third race took 6th place in a mature ride.

Blue should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Can they replace Ukawa with kato or capirossi? not being harsh on Ukawa, I think he is doing fine on new machine in new race, just think kato is a class ahead of him. Rossi vs Kato..hmmmm more interesting.

it would have to be a Japanese rider alongside Rossi, cant have two Italians... I agree, Kato and Rossi would be interesting! I think Rossi hasnt really been pushed by Ukawa, not to the absolute limit anyway. Ukawa seems technically good, chooses good setup and tyres etc but doesnt seem to have the fire of Kato.

IMO Katoh on a four-stroke would be FANTASTIC!!!

If he can get that close to Rossi on a two-stroke, I can't wait until he gets his hand on one of those big bangers.

when those honda four-strokes get it right, they catapault out of the corners! i couldnt believe the ease with which Rossi flew by Biaggi! Then Ukawa battling Loris, out the last corner Ukawa just sailed by, then lil loris kept outbraking him! That was great fun. Its going to be a great season, I hope Yahmaha sort out their bike so Max can get in on the action. Then it would really spice things up.

What was that with Laconi, McCoy and McWilliams??
They got penalised because Laconi apperantly slowed down due to technical problems or what??
He said he slowed down because of the yellow flag.
Hmm sounds fishy.

IMO Yamaha and Suzuki are not too worried about this season. In essence, this is a transition year for the MotoGP class. This is just one giant test session for the new bikes in preparation for a full-blown assault on the title next year, when all four manufacturers (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Aprilia) will be joined by Ducati and Kawasaki.

Motorcycle Grand Prix racing has never been healthier.

My rdiers of the day: F.Nieto in 250 and M.Kallio in 125.

Shame the Moto GP class didn't keep the excitement level of 250 and 125.

Nieto and Rolfo were great to watch in the 250s. Good for Casey Stoner to get a good finish. A mature ride like that was exactly what he needed.

I agree, Kato is a superstar in the making.
