Is it sacrilege to say I actually enjoy Carlton Kirby in short bursts? Whilst I’m sure I’ll want his head on a plate after 18 hours of sleep deprived viewing during the race. I must admit I do enjoy his eccentric style in sessions like this where there isn’t loads going on.
His crazy commentary of a running race up up the steps of the Eiffel Tower will forever live with me... |

Maybe Kobayashi goes for a lap. Low temp tires and full fuel.

New tyres, new nose, low fuel and Koabayshi. If that's not a statement of intent then I don't know what is.

Lap times are crazy. Lmp2 3:24.956 That would have been good enough for outright pole in 2011.
#4 Rebellion would have got pole in 2016 with their current time. |

Wow, #8 Toyota pinged now for exceeding fuel flow. Never seen that before from a factory car.

Happened to Porsche at the Nurburgring a few years ago during the race. They got a stop and go each time, and it increased in length for each infraction. Took them a good hour or two to get on top of it during the race. I guess it'll be easier to fix in a practice session.

Doesn't look like Koba can do much on this stint.

The Rebellion was absolutely nailed to the rear deck of the Toyota through the Porsche curves. Almost like dirty air wasn't even a thing. Really interesting to see that.

At RLM they are saying that the regulation sets that if a car surpass the fuel flow per lap, it gets a 10 seconds stop and go penalty. After the 4 time that car gets a 10 minutos penalty !
I understood well? |

On-boards for the Yota were showing lots of early lifting....
Glad I got home with about 30 mins left to find a YouTube stream with track noise only to supplement the RLM stream on a tablet. What a magical place! And I just got back from Disney!! To hell with the Rat in the Swamp! |

Yeah that sounds right. Porsche got that in 2015 I think it was, at the Nurburgring. Or maybe 2016. If you keep breaking the fuel flow then penalty is basically 2 minutes for each infraction after the first. So if you do it 3 times it's 3x2 = 6 minutes. Something like that. Either way, it's a lot.

Not a bad qualifying all things considered, though I do think these 17s are gonna be the pole times.

Yeah I think the only class that will change is LMP2. It’s fast but they can go faster. Toyota won’t bother, Porsche won’t bother and that Am time is untouchable.

Realistically there looks less than 2s between them in normal lappery, but I’m not sure that Rebellion can get to the fabled (ooo outrage about something) 0.5s. |

I'm really not too bothered about it. And the speed of SMP is very encouraging as well, if Toyota fires off into the distance we look to be set for a great battle for the last podium step at the very least.
Rebellion and SMP are definitely close enough that Toyota can't afford a single mistake, and that's really already pretty good in my opinion. |

On the long run pace it doesn't look like Toyota is far ahead at all. Of course there's not much to go on with all the yellows and different programs. I'm encouraged that there's going to be a legitimate race behind them and with them though.
