HSCC Anglesey

HSCC first ever visit to the circuit.

Hopefully to include stand alone Formula Atlantic races, along with Derek Bell (F5000 etc), HF3, HFF and FF2000 as well as other usual HSCC grids.

HSCC to celebrate Tom Pryce at Anglesey

The life of Tom Pryce will be celebrated at the Anglesey circuit in North Wales this summer (July 13/14) when the Historic Sports Car Club’s first race meeting at the spectacular track is dedicated to the famous Welsh Formula 1 racer.

Announced today, St David’s Day, the Tom Pryce Memorial Race Meeting will honour the memory of a hugely popular driver who had a meteoric rise to fame and a flourishing Grand Prix career that was tragically curtailed by an accident in the 1977 South African Grand Prix.

In July, the first major historic race meeting to be held in Wales will honour Tom Pryce with a programme that includes the inaugural stand-alone races for Formula Atlantic as a period category. Pryce was a star of Formula Atlantic during his rise to stardom and the pair of Formula Atlantic races will be run for the Tom Pryce Trophy.

The plans for the event are moving ahead with the blessing of Tom’s widow, Nella, who now lives in France. “It certainly is a great idea to remember Thomas at this race meeting and I’m all in favour of it,” she said.

As well as honouring the memory of this unassuming young racer from North Wales, the weekend will support the memorial fund being established to provide a permanent memorial to Tom in his home town of Denbigh.

Alongside the Formula Atlantic races, the weekend will include mighty Formula 5000s in a double-header for the XL Aurora Series and the HSCC Historic Formula Ford Championship, where the entry will include several Lola T200s.

Back in 1970, Tom won a Lola T200 in a Daily Express competition, which set him towards a racing career. In 1972, he raced in Formula Atlantic with the Royale team and made his Formula 1 debut in 1974. He then raced for the Shadow F1 team in 1975 and 1976 and was set to become one of the leading Formula 1 drivers of the era when he died in South Africa in March 1977. Tom was just 27-years-old at the time and would have reached his 70th birthday in June 2019.

Other races on the schedule for a busy weekend at the Anglesey track include 70s Road Sports, Historic Road Sports, Historic Touring Cars, Historic Formula 3/Classic Racing Cars, Historic Formula Junior and Historic Formula Ford 2000.

Andy Dee-Crowne, CEO of the HSCC, said: “We are delighted to be taking a full weekend of HSCC racing to the superb circuit at Anglesey for the first time. It is wholly appropriate to honour the life of Tom Pryce, a quiet hero from North Wales who was destined for the very top of the sport. Having the inaugural Formula Atlantic races along with Historic Formula Ford on the programme provides a perfect link to Tom’s formative years.”

Best circuit in the country - hope the meeting (and the circuit) get the support it deserves from both competitors and spectators.

I'd be interested to see that meeting, but we're racing there with CSCC the following weekend so not sure I can justify the trip two weekends running.....

Do hope it gets good support, though.....

Wonder if I can swing a week's holiday on the island - or maybe pop over to Ireland for a few days in between

The weather forecast looks promising.

I popped over to the Isle on the way back from the West of Wales yesterday. There are some roadworks on the A55 on the Island but nothing that looked likely to cause problems.

Later on I enjoyed my first run along the A55 North Wales coast Expressway. What an interesting road that is heading East. Looking forward to seeing what it is like heading West.

But worth it - best circuit in the UK in my opinion. Looking forward to a double header with CSCC in two weeks time.

Very brief word with delta as he was sorting the gearbox ahead of testing this morning - he made it out as you can see. Back tomorrow and Sunday.

Arrived late afternoon, too late to catch the flying Delta! What an incredible circuit In the middle of nowhere with the North Sea and Snowdonia as a backdrop! At first glance it looks like real good support from competitors with the paddock fairly packed. Trying to get my head round the layout at the moment, no doubt I'll find out Saturday/Sunday.

When was Anglesey in the North Sea? Fairly sure it's the Irish Sea on our West coast.

Has the Formula Atlantic race been combined with the XL Aurora?

Hope the car is alright Iain as the dreaded yellow warning sign was next to you on the timing?

Up and having quiet moment with nice cup of tea and stale quassont. This weekend has now gone from having a super time to misery . I had a great fantastic tacecin the Aurora . Finished 3 rd after good battle swooping places with Frank in his 5000. Some time after the race I was called to C of C office .I was disqualified as he had looked at my lap times and I set my quickest lap when thee was a yellow flag being shown at last corner on to the pit straight . I explained that my last three laps I had broken away from the 5000 and F2 car and had had a chance to settle down and concentraight on my driving and had then tuned in some goidclsp times whilst being very cautious at the corner where the yellow flag was being waved ..I could of appealed but do you know what’s the point . I know I did nothing wrong . I then get the 5000 competitor moaning as he said I put him on the grass . Going to pull out of Aurora race today and just do Atlantic race . I have been looking forward so much to this weekend to now of had it spoilt .Nevef mind . It’s been nice to catch up with some tenther friends .

Looks like you were having a cracking race Iain in the Atlantic race.

Unfortunate at the end. Hope the car can be out for R2.
