Anyone have any 1977 Bathurst Videos?

Hello.
I was wondering if anyone knew where i could get some decent quality videos (none of that youtube crap quality) of the 1977 Bathurst 1-2 Finish?
Can't find any at the moment.

Thanks.

Perhaps Seven can be convinced to release it with some arm twisting by Noonz.

seriusly you had a vcr in 1977. you must have been rich or nerdy to have that sort of technology

Well worth it

I've got the box set, 1961-2001. Great for a rainy day or a drunken night.

7 Archives ?

I've also got the box set. A bit weird on the editing side but well worth buying it. What ever happened to the channel seven motorsport archive, did they dispose of most of it in 1997 or does it still exist in some form ?

I heard they threw out all the footage except for the highlight reel for a lot of those races back in the 70's and pretty much what you see on the "Great Race" DVD's is all that's left.

7 supposedly edited the Bathurst telecasts (cut differently to those on the highlight tapes, for instance the 50-odd minute highlights of 1977, 1981 etc... shown on C7 Sports a few years back), but threw the rest away (AMSCAR, ATCC, Catalina Rallycross etc..)

It has also been mentioned that it all got sent to Melbourne to the main HSV-7 archive. And has also been mentioned that Chevron bought the rights to the Channel 7 from 1986-onwards (presumebly all that was left)

Certain people have access to full Channel 7 coverage of Bathurst races from 1969-today though (i've also heard of a full set of the 1978 ATCC out there)

Certainly a lot of it was destroyed but pieces not from the Great Race DVD have appeared now and again.

For example this clip (made by V8 Supercars TV last year) shows footage from 1977 not on the Great Race DVD.

Its funny what appears and doesn't appear in various highlights of each year.

I've seen 3 versions of the 1977 race (the Atlab/Chevron 1975-85 video, a 25min version, and the 52min C7 Sport version), and only the 1975-85 video features Johnny Rutherford's crash on the run to Skyline.

Generally speaking if you name it it is out there somewhere in someone's collection, its just a matter of whether they are willing to copy/share it for others. Bathurst 1978 in full has been mentioned around, while the full 1979 telecast has been 'getable' for a while.

Yeah, it was interesting that this occurred in the V8XTRA shows, I noticed Bathurst 79 had non-Chevron footage in it as well.

I was wondering why the archive footage segment of that show had to be from Bathurst though. Why couldn't they show quick highlights of a Championship round or even a whole series in that segment? Weird, especially considering how much VESA are pushing 'the championship' these days..........

The reason for that is that the championship rounds would be harder to find (and would have been less likely to be kept) than Bathurst.

Prior to 1983 there was no formal TV deal for the ATCC, it was up to each individual promoter to sort their TV deal out for their round themselves. The rounds were televised usually by either Channel 7 or the ABC (ABC mostly), but there were certainly rounds that went untelevised.

ABC did televise live the 1979 ATCC finale in Adelaide where Bob Morris won the series from Peter Brock...i've been hoping it may have popped up on Late Night Legends.

Sony Betamax came out in 75...around 76 I bought a top of the line JVC for over 2K...the new Holden Van was around 6 with some options...they were good machines and with good quality tape you got excellent results - 10000 times better than the crap on you tube

30 year old video tape should be OK...not if its been played mercilously since then tho....also depends on how its been stored (cool place) or exercised etc

Sadly...not much I would never throw out the Power and the Glory series and a few other little gems like the last Amaroo Meeting.

Most people used the VCR to record stuff they wouldn't be home to see....watch it, then tape over it....oh well

Digging up on old thread here, but the entire (except for 11am to 12pm) 1977 race is out, and available from Chevron:

https://www.mymagazines.com.au/hzsub...nishes-aus.htm

Check the YouTube intro from Noonze in the above link.
